Italy trip
Hi everyone
I'm planning my trip alone to Italy so be ready for a lot of questions in the near future!!
I have a question: Is it safe to stay in Rome near the Termini (train station)?
I may stay in a bed and breakfast there and I wanted to know.
My budget is kind of limited for hotels. I do want a "private bathroom" though. I've seen photos of some B&Bs with private bathrooms but I don't see the shower inside the bathroom, is this possible??
Please, let me know if you know of a hotel you've stayed in and you liked. I plan to spend less than 100 euros a day in hotels. I'm also going to Florence, Venice and Asissi.
Thanks in advance!!
Veronica

There are lots of budget hotels/inns around Termini. We stayed at a 3* one on Via Viminale across from the Teato dell'Opera. That side of Termini is very safe, with lots of decent looking 2*, 3* and 4* hotels.
Single room is 50 Euros till early March. All rooms should have private showers, but you may want to email to confirm.
It has good reviews on Tripadvisor, and while the photos look better than the actual rooms, it's still quite decent. Only downside is that breakfast is continental only + hard boiled eggs. No meat or hot stuff.

I found http://www.cross-pollinate.com/ with a couple of good reviews on Rick Steves' site that may be help you. Some of the baths are in-suite and some say "shower".

Look at Hotel Umbro in Assisi. It was about 100E for two so should be less for a single. Very nice with good breakfast and most rooms overlook a convent garden. It has a roof top terrace and good restaurant also. It is hard to find so be sure of directions if you decide on Umbro.

Be careful that private facilities include a WC. We stayed at a cheap place in Milan four years ago, and paid 20,000 lire extra for a 'private shower'. For that, we got a plastic shower cubicle in the bedroom and had to go down the hall to use the WC. We had to wait ages while the other guests had their showers in the same bathroom as the communal WC!
That said, I don't think you'll have any problem if you can budget up to 100 Euro. We're paying that for a double in Rome in October, and the pictures and reviews on the Venere site are great.

We stayed at a hotel called the Britannia (Via Napoli 64, near Via Nazionale), and it was within walking distance of the train station. We took a day trip to Pompeii from there. You are also within walking distance of the Colosseum, etc.
We traveled to Capri for three days and we left our large pieces of luggage behind at the hotel (we were spending our last night there before departing for home).
The room was small and clean, breakfasts were good and the staff was very friendly.
They also provided us with transportation to the airport.
BTW, This hotel is a Foder's Choice.

Oops! I forgot to mention that the rooms do come with a bath.
I noticed you mentioned around 100 euros--don't know how much the rates are now.
You can e-mail them at www.hotelbritannia.it

Hi Vero,
In Sept I stayed at Hotel Giardino Rome, a 2*, on Via XXIV di Maggio. Really great location, about 3 minutes to the Trevi Fountain, 10 minutes to the Colliseum, you can walk everywhere. Basically behind Trajan's Market between that and the Quirinale (presidential palace). Internet Cafe right downstairs.
Cosy place, well run by Katy and her boys, they answer e mails very promptly. I had a single room with private bathroom (shower only) for 90E/night (high season). The rooms facing the street have soundproof windows so I slept great. Typical breakfast. Katy and her staff are extremely helpful and friendly.
You don't have to stay by Termini to get a low rate!
Buon viaggio!
