Italy in October

Can anyone give me good tips for a Honeymoon in Rome, Tuscany (probably Chianti) and Sorreto/Capri? We will do a 7 day trip, and we wanted to go to those cities above, do you think is too much to do in 7 days?

What time of year will you be traveling? Why Chianti? Would recommend two places with a week assuming your seven days does not include any travel days to/from Italy.

I will be travelling in middle of October. It's 7 free days with no travel days.

tgk - yes, sorry it IS too much for seven days, even 7 clear days.

I would decide whether to go to Tuscany [stay in Chianti area for the week] or Sorrento/Capri. or go to Rome. as it's a honeymoon, it probably doesn't matter which. but not all together!

I'm with annhig

Choose:

1) Tuscany

or

2) Sorrento/Capri

or

3) Rome

ANY of the above would make for a perfect honeymoon.

Trying to squeeze and combine them, however, is a bad idea.

Sorrento/Capri for a honeymoon would definitely be my choice. It's beautiful, romantic a perfect honeymoon destination. In seven days, I would only pick one location.

I think my best travel in Italy was always in October. Is your entire trip 7 days or are there more days involved? If it's only 7 days total I agree with packed, pick one location and get to know the area, relax and don't worry about packing up and traveling. It's a long trip over there and you need time to adjust.
One of my favorite things is to get a nod of recognition from the coffee shop person after going in there for a few days. You don't get that experience if you're on the move all the time. It's also cheaper if you get an apartment for the week than renting hotels and eating out and shopping in the markets gives you a good feel of local life.

Hi tg,

Yup.

October is just after the grape and olive harvests and is not the best time for Tuscany.

You might luck out with Sorrento and Capri, but it is near the end of the Season.

Rome is, of course, OK any time of year.

Is there a reason you wouldn't want to fly into Venice (or Milan) and do 3 nights in Venice and then train to Rome for 3 nights before flying home?
