Italy driving trip..Siena to Munich?...

I am doing a one week (6 nights) driving trip from Munich to Northern and Central Italy and back to Munich. My current plan is: One night in Asolo, one night in Venice (I've been before), two nights in Florence, one night in Montalcino/Siena.

I am looking for a good overnight stop between Siena and Munich for the sixth night. I was thinking about Verona; any opinions on Verona or other suggestions? Modena..Parma..Bologna??

Thank you.

FS - Of those you've suggested I'd choose Verona.

Or ... how about somewhere in the Dolomites for spectacular scenery?
Ortisei or Castelrotto would be good choices ...

Trento? or Bolzano? I would always opt for getting 70+% of the driving out of the way on the first (return) day.

Prepares you better for some unanticipated delay.

Best wishes,

Another vote for Trento or Bolzano. Both are pretty towns. Bolzano is bigger with more museums and nearby sites, but Trento has a very nice old section for walking around in.

Verona is ok, but has lots of noise and traffic, and we found it kind of disapointing.

Thanks. I will look at Bolzano and Trento.

Any weather issues with the Brenner Pass in the first week in April? I definitely do not want to drive in snow.

Another stop ont he North half of your route, depending on which way you are going, would be a stop in Salzburg.

fishskis,

I may be off the beam on this one because it happened back in the 60's. I think it was at Eastertime. The pass was closed because of snow, and cars had to be loaded on to a train to get through Brenner. Perhaps the situation has changed and there's a good road there now. But I'd sure check locally to see what the weather will be.
