Italy and Greece in August
Hi guys
We are novice travellers looking to give Itlay and Greece a visit in August. Main question is what is the best way to get from Italy to Greece? We are thinking of leaving from Naples, but looks like Brindisi might be best as we are thinking of starting off in corfu. Where else would you suggest in Greece, islands especially? Flying or ferry? Any info would be useful! Thanks Emma and Kate

Bringing your message back up "to the top" since you are brand new here - - how do I know that? click on your own username - - it's a valuable tip that Fodors fails to give you when they send you that initial e-mail, confirming your registration. And not even mentioned in their FAQs (click on "HELP" in the little red letters, upper left hand corner). I recommend reading through those, as well.
As for your question - - you may find a lot of answers on flying on one of the many new intra-Europe low cost air carriers - - at www.whichbudget.com

Hi,
I also suggest you fly to Athens. I am not sure if there are flights from Naples to Athens, you might have to go to Rome. If you want you can take a ferry form Brindisi.I am not sure if the ferry will go to Corfu or to Patras. Once in Patras there are probably ferries that go to Corfu. Check out the Greek ferry web sites. If you so the ferry thing, it is a long haul, so get a bedroom on the ferry. Have a great time.

Hi,
I looked at one ferry site and indeed there are ferries that go between Brindisi and Corfu that have cabins. One leaves at 21 hours and arrives at 8:10 and it appears to be about 110 euros for the cabin. I just did a google search. good luck

Flying is best if you can get bookings and can afford it, but be sure to get your reservations as soon as you possibly can or you'll find yourselves taking the ferries and fighting the August crowds which are NOT to be believed. Aegean Airlines has good prices from Milan and Rome to Athens, then again from Athens to the various islands. There are also fast ferries from Athens/Piraeus and Rafina out to the islands. If you're going to Corfu first after Italy then you'll probably be using the ferry system, so make sure you allow for the travel time involved.
