Hello!
I arrived in Milan a few years ago during an air traffic controlers strike... I never noticed. As long as it is not a general transportation strike( like all trains) you will probably be ok. The International Herald Tribune will publish what strikes are happening every week and what times,,,, yes many strikes wil last 3-4 hours... Like a long lunch. When I was there the air traffic controllers struck once to twice a week.... and always AFTER all the international flights had arrived. My advice... if the strike is for a few a hours... they occur weekly... don't worry about it. IIn fact, I don't think I have ever arrived or left Italy when there wasn't a strike.... I was there for a day long rail strike that gummed things up for one day.... but if the strike is for a few hours... don't worry about it. Have fun!!!! Maggie

Jean, that's great! Enjoy your family reunion, and tell us all about it when you get back.
Ozgirl ~ Do you know whether your flight is operated by JAL (JAL personnel) or Alitalia? If it is JAL you should be OK, and even if it is Alitalia you might still be OK for a couple of reasons: it is an international flight and the strike ends at 16.00. And who knows, maybe by then it will be called off or postponed!

We are flying from Heathrow to Milan(Malpensa) that morning.Does any one know if this strike is just in Rome or will it affect all airports in Italy. Are these strikes usually called off at the last moment or shoulkd I make alternative arrangemnets? I have to be in Italy
that morning. Thanks

92 flights cancelled today - July 8. about 172 were international due to ground staff strike.
I am told next strike scheduled for July 15- by transport union
then July 18- by flight attendants.
Each should cause a similar problem to schedule.
