Italian Riviera OR Lake Como

Sorry, if this ended up being posted twice - wasn't showing up on my screen...
We will be making our way (likely driving) from a wedding just outside of Florence, towards Nice, in June. We can't decide if we should stop in Santa Margherita Ligure for 2 nights and continue towards Nice, either by car or train, OR to drive to Bellagio, also continuing after towards Nice, either by car or train. We'd obviously like to take our time, but know that it will likely feel rushed. Anyway, we'd geatly appreciate any opinions in regards to the nicer drive and areas, and also in terms of convenience. Thanks very much!!!

It would be much more direct to go through SML, and it's a nice area to visit as well. Personally, I love Lake Como, but Santa M makes more sense for you, I think.

We preferred Bellagio to SML but either is well worth the visit. Bellagio is out of the way for your eventual destination of Nice so maybe SML makes more sense. Save the Como region for the next trip. Another thought, the drive into Bellagio takes some time as you must first not miss the turn towards Bellagio before you enter Switzerland and then you have to take a car ferry to Bellagio itself. Go to SML.

Just to show that people's opinions differ, we spent a week in Bellagio and five nights in SML last June and we liked SML better. Bellagio was pretty but touristy and SML felt like a true Italian town.

Enjoy your time in SML and save Bellagio for another trip.

I want to thank you for all of your thoughts, it's very appreciated! We've decided on Santa Margherita Ligure. Now we're debating between 2 different hotels - Hotel Laurin and Hotel Metropole... so if any of u have stayed at either one and have an opinion... I'll also post the question w/ a new title.
Thanks again!

Hi Cassidy,

We stayed at Hotel Lauren in a room with a terrace overlooking the quay. It was a very friendly hotel and our room was nice.

I hope you enjoy your time in SML.
