Isle Sur La Sorgue
Sorry, but I loaded this into the wrong board. We are driving from Loumarin to Dijon. Is it worth the extra day or two to attend the market in Isle Sur La Sorgue on Sunday. We would like to spend a lot of time in Dijon so don't want to take away from that. Can the antique stores in Isle de la Sorgue be a substitute for the market.

I think most of the permanent antique stores are only open on Sat & Sun - to coincide with the Sunday market. The market is quite nice - different than the covered market in Dijon.
Also, Dijon will be kinda "dead" on Sunday & Monday - with most stores closed then. Some will open on Monday afternoon around 2:00. Actually, there is an "antique row" in Dijon and there is a small antique street market along the "row" on Sunday. I think the street/row is just a little north of the Palais des Ducs. The owl walk goes down the row.

Whether it's worth it or not is really up to you !
The antique market AND food market in l'Isle is on Sunday. The food market takes up a lot of space and is worth a walk through.
All of the antique shops are open on Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

>>Antique row, do you mean a shopping streets with antique shops only, Stu? Must be rue Verrerie then<<
Yep - that's it. My wife almost purchased something there from one of the street vendors on Sunday.

I personally love the L'Isle sur la Sorgue market! I have been twice and loved it both times and wouldn't hesitate to go back. Of course, I'm a market junkie! However, the charm of L'Isle is the water wheels, basins, and streams/rivers that go through and around the town. They don't call it the Venice of France/Provence for nothing! I don't know how long a drive it is from L'Isle to Dijon, but if you got to the market early (9A) and left after a couple of hours or so, could you be in Dijon for dinner?
I can't answer your question about the antique stores as I have not taken the time to look into them but just wandered the market. Enjoy!!!

Our family spent 5 nights in Isle Sur La Sorgue in July 2005 doing daytrips around the region. We chose this town specifically so we could go to the Sun. market. It is a lovely town and the market was fabulous! The first thing I purchased was a market basket for my future purchases. It brings a smile to my face everytime I use it!

>>this outdoor antique market is only once a month (3rd sunday of the month?)<
We were there on Sept 17th - which was the third Sunday.
Is there a weekend where nothing special is going on in Dijon? We were there for 3 consecutive weekends, and there was a "event" every time we visited. When do the police, street cleaners, event planners, etc. ever get a weekend off????

Poor John, we’re hijacking his thread ! But at least it stays on the top…
Things should calm down in Dijon but there still are some movie festivals and exhibitions. You can check the agenda on www.dijon.fr

I do think the Sunday market in Isle is worth the visit. We also stayed there for two nights so as to attend the market. Most of what I bought in France came from that market and I did find reasonable prices.(Example a beautiful Jean D'Arc plate showing her visitations 25 Euro, A print of Diana the huntress 20 Euro). Be aware that you will also see lots of faux provencal tablecloths etc but keep on walking and you will get into the heart of the antiques and collectibles.
