Island ferries
Help!! All the sites I try don;t give me timetables. We ar planning to travel in May - and all I need to know are the times for ferries from Iraklio, Crete to Santorini; and then on the same day a ferry from Santorini to Sifnos. Any help as to where to go would be so much appreciated. Tx

Because it's now the off season there isn't much traffic between these islands except for a car ferry twice a week from Sitia and Ag. Nikolaos to Santorini. The timetables for May aren't out yet, that's why you can't find them. I can tell you that beginning in April for the past few years there has been a highspeed ferry, 5 days/week between Heraklion and Santorini that continues on to Ios, Naxos, Paros and Mykonos. At the end of May it becomes a daily run. There's no reason to think it won't be operating on a similar schedule this year.
Right now there's only one ferry between Santorini and Sifnos, departing Thursdays at 10 am. Can't say for sure if and when more departures will be added, but you can use the website below to check in regularly until the timetables for May are posted, probably sometime in late April.

Thank you so much - how far ahead do you need to book ferries? do you think we are better off booking a ferry from Pireaus to Crete; then flying back to Athens and taking a ferry from Piraeus to Sifnos in terms of getting exact days - we are looking at travelling on a monday both times and we are a group of 5 adults and 1 child!!!!

Booking the ferries ahead in May is totally unnecessary. You can wait until you're on Crete to purchase your tickets because the ferries won't be full.
It will save time if you can fly to Crete, but an overnight ferry is a good option as long as the combined fares for sleeping rooms does not exceed the plane fare, or as long as you're willing to sit in a chair all night long to save money.
By the way, you still might be able to snag some of the reduced fares on Aegean Airlines to make flying more affordable.

As far as flying back to Athens for another ferry to Sifnos, as it stands right now since there is a Monday afternoon ferry from Piraeus to Sifnos it might be a good option as long as the schedule doesn't change. Unfortunately there's no way of knowing if it will.
