Ischia - Day Trip or Stay the a night or Two?

Hello!

My fiance and I will be on our honeymoon in Italy at the end of September/early October. We have two weeks in Italy and I thought we could do 6 days in the Campania region (seeing Pompeii, Herculaneum) for part of the trip. I thought this would be a good schedule so maybe we could spend 4 days on the mainland - possibly based in Sorrento, since this seems to be the most often suggested location - and then maybe 2 days on Ischia. So my question is, would it be worth spending the night(s) on Ischia, or would a day trip be the better option? Our main goal in visiting the island would just be some R and R, trying the thermal pools, some spa treatments, beaches if open. My only concern about staying on the island is if it rains during our visit, we'd be kinda stuck. Where as if we day tripped, we might be able to adjust so we could go on a day where there is good weather (if there is one). If two days on Ischia is the recommendation, where would be a good place to stay for such a short trip? If a day trip is the better option, where should we spend the day? Is early October even a good time to visit the Island (are most things still open)?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as my guide books don't have much information about this. Thank you very much!

We came over for just a quick visit the first time - whilst staying on nearby Procida - and ended up moving here in early 2003...

This is the island - take your pick!

At the time of year you're considering, we rarely get more than fairly brief though heavy thunderstorms... and yes, it's still very much part of the season!
