Is this doable?Train to Bologna -----

After much research , we have decided to take the train to Bologna from Munich, then take the shuttle to Bologna airport to pick up our cars and travel on to Nocera UMbra. It seems to be a 5 hour train ride to Bologna from Munich and then a 3 hour drive to Nocera Umbra. Going to Bologna gets us into Italy in daylight hours and avoids getting into Perugia at 9M by train and then trying to find our way out of PErugia once we get our cars. Getting the cars after hours adds to the cost and it means we get to Nocera Umbra at such a late hour . Not fun on many levels .It looks like it is fairly easy to get out of Bologna airport onto the main highway(easy drive)and then a short jaunt to Nocera from the highway. If anyone has any ideas , that would be better ,please share them . For the 9 of us this so far seems the best plan.

Hi M,

Check www.whichbudget.com for flights from Munich to Rome FCO or Pescara.

They are both closer to NU than Bologna.

Hi merry,

Have you checked that you can't pick the car/s up at the train station or central bologna?

just an idea.

regards, ann

Hello Ira and Annhig,
Thanks for your replies.

I guess , I did not explain that we decided that by going from Munich by train to Bologna allowed the family to see more country while laying back. Picking up the car at the airport --- that was in order to avoid going into Bologna (husband&son do not want to drive in the city core).

Initially , we tried to get a flight from Munich into Perugia (doesn't work) then found it challenging to book "9 people" and cost was also a factor .I just tried the website Ira sent me and there is only a flight on Sat. (day late) by Air Berlin. WE also have concerns re rest of our family with luggage costs since they have not travelled overseas before. We have suggested keeping light on luggage !!!!

We will buy our eurorail passes in Canada while not cheap , all around seems to be the best solution . However, I thought I'd post my question since we have not driven this road from Bologna to Norcera Umbra
