Is La Valee Outlet Mall Worth the Trip?

Has anyone out there shopped at the outlet mall located near Disneyland Paris? Hubby and I are real fashion-lovers and I see they have Diesel,Charles Jourdan, Agnes B. Cityrama runs buses there a few times each week but it's not worth it unless the merchandise is great.

Well, they are outlet goods -- past seasons and end of the line merchandise. Most of the stuff looks pretty good to me. La Vallée is attached to the Val d'Europe supermall on the RER A line.

A round trip ticket to Val d'Europe from Paris on the metro and RER costs 11.10€. Certainly Cityrama is not charging more than 12€ ???

I think I recently saw that the round trip fare on Cityrama is 19 euros...so time 2 people might negate savings you hope to receive.

And, you're right, most outlet malls are selling things that didn't sell during the season they were offered.

19 euros is not as bad a price as I feared. But by taking the RER A, you are able to spend as little or as much time as you want, because the trains run about every 8 minutes.

Value is in the eye of the beholder. The designer shops offer, as kerouac notes, last season and over run merchandise at prices that are reduced but still can be pretty hefty. If you are into fashion and accustomed to paying rack rates you will probably enjoy it, but it is not as inexpensive as, say, a sample sale in Manhattan. And then there is the horrid exchange rate...
In case you do not know this, the outlets are located in a sort of village setting next door to a regular mall. The mall offers pretty much what you would expect in terms of chain stores , but my favorite thing there is the large Auchan - great place for picking up things like chocolates or cooking things not available in the US. There is also a FNAC if you are into music but do not expect bargain prices.
It is easy to get there via RER - the station is a minute or two stroll from the mall entrance. Go through the mall to get to the outlet area.

I stopped there a couple of weeks ago and wasn't impressed with what I did see (I mostly stopped to check the Disney store out, but looked elsewhere as well).

If you have a Carte Orange for zone 5, you can just go on that. I wouldn't take Cityrama.

I didn't think it was that great of an outlet mall. I bought some PUMA shoes for 20Euros which was about the best deal there. I prefer the ones in Italy. However, there are some interesting things. I had the most fun buying things at the grocery store in the regular mall. You can get mustards and spices (which make good gifts) cheaper at the grocery store than at the tourist places, however it was a real pain dragging back stuff.

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback; it would probably be as I think most outlet malls are. If lucky, you find a real bargain but most are last year's items that didn't sell. We have outlet malls here in Canada, and being close to the US border, we visit those as well from time to time but we rarely buy anything unless it's a real basic item.

Thanks for the feedback.
