Is it worth buying the ROMA PASS?

We are visiting Rome for the first time. Our hotel is outside the Aurelian Wall and provides a regular shuttle to the city centre. Is it still worth it to purchase the ROMA PASS?

Depends on what you intend to see while in Rome.

We always get one as The Borghese is one of our favorite museums and we also enjoy the Forum and Colosseum. The entrance fees are free for these with the pass so it is worth it for us and you can bypass the lines at all of them (need a reservation for the Borghese).

We walk most everywhere so rarely use it for public transport.

The value of the Roma Pass is not in the transit portion, though that can be helpful, and you may find that you want or need to ride a bus or the metro during the 3-day effective period. It's in the discounts and free admissions to sights (not to mention being able to skip ticket lines for the two free sights). If you plan to see enough sights in the short time the pass is in effect, then it's worth it by all means.

I used my free admissions for the Borghese and the Colosseum. I bought it specifically to avoid a huge line at the Colosseum knowing that I would visit the Borghese the following morning, when I had already reserved a ticket. But I also rode the bus a couple of times, so it came in handy there as well, and I got a couple of discounted admissions. So I felt I got my money's worth.

If you are going to go to two sites in Rome that are supported by the Roma Pass ... and are going to use the public transportation system a few times, then yes, the Roma Pass can be a good buy. The pass is now €23 - the entrance to the Colosseo runs about €12 and the Galleria Borghese runs €8.50 so these two sites alone almost pay for the pass. Use the transportation system and you "do better" than buying these items separately. Try this link for more help: http://www.roninrome.com/2009/04/27/...y-a-roma-pass/

Here is another twist on the Roma Pass, in some cases, even after you have used your 2 free accesses, other areas will let you in at no charge.
