AGM_Cape_Cod: The Museum Pass is valid for the Orangerie. We used it last summer, and because the facility had only reopened a couple of months prior, we bypassed a queue of hundreds stretching across the edge of the Tuileries. At least there was shade there (under pollarded trees) that hot July day.

Lots of good replies!!

On ticketnet you can buy tickets through 2007, but it seems that an individual can only get in at 12:30. Don't know what happens if you arrive at 2:00 - maybe it's anytime after 12:30.

I think it's safe to assume that an individual can not get in before 12:30 - even if you purchase at FNAC.

We'll be in Paris in August. We'll also be in Provence in June. If I walk by a FNAC store in Avignon/Aix, etc, does anyone know if I can purchase an Orangerie ticket 3 months in advance?

Still not sure if stepping inside of an FNAC store is better than waiting in a 30 min line at the museum. We will not be in Paris long enough to go to a FNAC store there, if you can only get tickets 48 hrs in advance or earlier (can't buy Sat for a Sun visit)

There's a post on bonjourparis about buying through fnac online and presenting your credit card at an fnac location upon arrival in Paris to pick up the tickets. That would be ideal. But I'm finding it difficult to navigate www.fnac.com and find anything about tickets to l'orangerie.

I guess it’s fitting that a museum that genrated so many problems before it finally reopened should generate so many questions about the best way to enter it.

In any event, I’m going to storm the Orangerie early on in my trip — without reservations. If I’m unsuccessful, I’ll learn from my experience and try again a few days later. Somehow, some way, at some point, I think I’ll make it.

DH and I were there in December for a long weekend and I arranged to get the tickets at FNAC. Since we had limited time, we didn't want to spend it waiting on line and had no idea what the line would be like. There were two lines, one for tickets holders and museum pass holders, and one for those without. We got there at 12:30 for a 1:00 reservation and got right in. I would say the line was about 30 minutes long for those without tickets. Once in, you can spend as long or as little as you like. Word of caution, you MUST have the credit card you used to reserve the tickets with you when you pick them up at FNAC. I didn't, and literally begged the guy behind the counter, who thankfully took pity on me. Whew........

FNAC doesn't seem to sell them at all any more, which is kind of odd as they sell lots of tickets to many other museums now (Louvre, Orsay, etc.).

YOu can go to a Ticketnet outlet to buy them or order them online and pick them up at a store in lots of places in France. They have outlets in several major store chains -- like Auchan, Leclerc and Virgin Megastore. In Paris, you could get them at the Virgin on the Champs-Elysees or down in the Louvre below-ground entrance area. They say if you buy them online and want to pick them up in the store, you need a seven day delay between the order and pickup which is kind of weird, but it looks easy to buy them way far in advance. It looks pretty sure to me that it is just an entrance ticket, not a timed entry for one particular time, and it just says 12:30 because that's when it is open to individuals. The FNAC site, which only sells them through March something makes you select an exact time, by contrast.

If someone can help me with how to arrange for an online credit card purchase and a pickup once in Paris on either ticketnet or FNAC, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks, Ginto. We have been waiting for years to get into the Orangerie but are only going to be in Paris for three days. We were already planning on getting a museum pass for two of the days.

We purchased 3-day museum passes through Rail Europe along with our train tickets before leaving for Paris in July 2006. With the pass, we did by-pass the long queue at L'Orangerie for tickets. Yes, only groups with reservations are allowed entry into the museum in the morning. Individuals are admitted after 12:30. My advise is to buy a museum pass and arrive just before opening. Not only does it save you time from standing in various line-ups, you will also be able to access tidy washrooms or grab a short a reprieve from the weather or crowds by popping into other museums or galleries on the pass!

www.fnac.com
use the 'search' - enter "orangerie" and select "spectacles"
click on Reserve

tickets are currently being sold for Nov 22, 2006 thru March 5, 2007
Scroll down the page - there is a calendar with dates and times.
The times are 1:00,2;00....5:00 - some of the times are no longer available

click on one that has a box around it
You most likely will need to purchase a "normal" ticket for 9.20€
Enter the number of tickets you want to purchase
Click 'continue'

You will need to create an account so be ready to enter an email address and password
- - I did not continue on from this point, but can only assume you will be presented with a page to enter credit card, expir date, etc. Perhaps it will ask you at which location of FNAC you wish to pick up the tickets or maybe it doesn't matter. You should be able to figure the rest out,if you are accustomed to buying online.

I bought tickets to a falconry show in Provins last year this way, and picked up the tickets when we got to Paris. I don't think I had to choose a location.

Perhaps the reservations beyond March 5 will open up soon. Or perhaps FNAC only sells tickets if there is a special exhibition tied in to the normal entry fee.
-----------------------------------
Here's a question:
can you go to the ticket office at l'Orangerie in the mornings (when only groups are going in) and buy an individual ticket for later on..?

Virgin Megastore's website is not currently selling tickets for l'Orangerie - it just offers an Email Alert in the event something kicks in...

Ticketnet and Virgin are basically the same engine.

For 8 euro tickets picked up in France within a week of admission to l'Orangerie, I was able to massage the ticketnet.fr site right up to the point of inserting my credit card data.

We won't be there until 23 March, so I am not within the window of being able to pickup tickets in Paris or France, but it sure looks like it will work.

I will volunteer to be the pathfinder on this, unless someone else does it sooner...

Rick

Thanks Rick, but do those tickets have a time on them, or merely a date so you can go at your convenience and get in at any time?

They have a time of 12:30 PM (any day) on them. That would make sense as evidently only groups are admitted before 12:30 PM.

There is no booking fee if you book and pickup tickets within that week in France. Looks like a plan.

I just checked out tickets.fr and it will cost a total of 20 euros instead of 8 euros if ordered online. That seems a bit steep

I'll try to help you Cimbrone, if you still need it. It's really pretty simple.

As I said, I just searched yesterday, and FNAC doesn't list entry past 3/5 on its website so I'd say you can't do it there.

I had no problem finding Orangerie entry tickets on www.ticketnet.fr through 12/31/07. One advantage of that website is that it has an English section, unlike FNAC.

Did you find the English section and still need help, Cimbrone? Because I don't have an account on ticketnet so haven't gone through all the steps. Basically, go to the webpage (I hit "passez l'intro&quot and then on the page that comes up, there is a UK flag at the upper right next to CONTACT, and then you get English.

Just type "orangerie" into the search box, and three entries come up for various choices. The general entry ticket up through 12/31 is the third one "Entree-Musee de l'Orangerie". YOu click on "book ticket" at the right and you can choose a date from about 3/1 to 12/31/07. All the dates say 12:30, which is why I think it is just a general entry for that day, not any timed entry. There is also a few question FAQs if you need them, in English, such as how to get tickets, etc. Select a date, the price is 8 euro, put in the number of how many you want. It has what I assume is an error in that it lists the time as 12:30 am, not 12:30 pm, but I wouldn't worry (hope I'm not steering you wrong and you have to go then, ha ha, I take no responsibility).

As I said, you can pick them up at Virgin Megastores in Paris prior to 7 days before the date you chose.

I'm not going to go further into this, as I don't have an account on there, and I figure you just didn't see the UK flag for English as it's pretty small. If you need more help, just ask.

"Has anyone actually used their Museum Pass? TIA."

Yes. December 2006. It was on a Saturday afternoon. We bypassed the lines and went directly to pick up our audio guides.
