Is 3 hours at Gatwick long enough?

I also posted this on the airline board, but thought I may get more responses from the Europe board.

So, here goes...

I have been researching prices for an open jaw airfare from Savannah, Georgia to Prague and then Dubrovnik to Savannah. Of course the prices are astronomical and the airline options are few.

I found a very reasonable round trip flight (on US Airways) from Savannah to London Gatwick that arrives Gatwick at 8:30AM and a reasonably priced British Airways flight that departs at 12:05PM for Prague. I'm not worried about the return from Dubrovnik, because I will be staying the night in London before returning to Savannah.

So, my question is: Is 3 and half hours enough time to get through customs and passport control at Gatwick and then check in for the 12:05PM British Airways flight?

Any information will be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much
Marcy

Have you called US Airways to ask if they can check your bags all the way through? Most major airlines will have a code share agreement and will do this for you. If so, then you will not have to collect your bags and go through customs. Please make the call to US Airways and post back with the answer.

I really should get a life, but I'm bored, so I made the call for you, although you will probably want to check this for yourself. US Airways said they can check your bag all the way through to Prague. So you do not have to get your bag, go through customs, and check in again. And barring any serious delays, you should have plenty of time to kill at LGW before your flight to Prague. Happy shopping at LGW!!

Thank you so much PM! I will make sure to call and confirm with US Airways before I purchase the tickets.

I need to get a life too...I'm sitting at the computer on New Year's eve watching the activity at Times Square!

Sheeesh!

Don't worry. You probably can check your bags through - but even if you can't, 3 hours is plenty at LGW.

Yeah, I had 2:40 in Gatwick last September to connect from a Northwest flight to an easyJet flight to Prague (and bags could not be checked through on easyJet I'm assuming) and I made it with plenty of time to spare. Our flight into Gatwick was early, plus immigration was quick, hope you will be so lucky!

The three hours is plenty - if the first flight arrives in time.

I am having a similar dilemma. I'm leaving for Asia with my daughter in early February (I know I'm on the wrong board - but couldn't resist responding). I'm flying on two separate tickets, from Baltimore to San Francisco on Air Tran and meeting my daughter in SF for a flight on Eva Air to Bangkok. I have 3 1/2 hours between flights. I'm not checking luggage so I don't have that problem, but I'm worried that if there's a major weather problem here in Baltimore, my flight could be delayed and I'll miss the San Francisco connection. So while I don't have words of wisdom to offer, I can certainly sympathize! You didn't say what month you're traveling - but obviously the weather issue diminishes considerably if you're not going until spring or summer. (I'm actually considering going a day early to ensure that I'm there in time!)

Althom1122,

I'll be leaving on the 1st or 2nd of September 2006, so, the only possible concern (since I'm on the southeast coast) would be a hurricane that may (or hopefully may not) effect my departure from Savannah! I'm thinking postive thoughts about that!

Thanks to everyone for all the responses! I think this will be the way to go and it will save me about $900!
