Will be heading to Vienna, Cesky Krumlov, Prague, and Budapest in a couple of weeks. I scheduled 3 nights in Vienna, however, the hotel that we would like to stay at is only available for 2 nights. I could search for another hotel that is available for all the nights, or just stay for 2 nights at the hotel that we want. Would a 2 night stay be ok?

It depends on what you want to see and do! I spent 4 nights there - and 4 very, very busy days - and would have liked to stay longer. But you can certainly see some of the wonderful things Vienna offers in less time.

Yes, I think so. I traveled to Budapest and Prague also, and I think Vienna is so wonderful but 2 days is enough to see the sights,but don't forget the Opera house it is beautiful!!!!!!

I agree with kja: It depends on what you want to see/do. We spent 3 nights and I felt rushed. I could have easily stayed another 2 (at least!). But I am a classical music fan and Vienna is a "Mecca" for me.

Are Two nights in Vienna enough?
Not for me.

But if all you have is 2 nights, make the most of them. But Vienna has many, many hotels. There are many advantages to changing to different areas. Vienna is so varied, and so complex, that seeing it from two neighborhoods has advantages.

The fact that you can only get two nights in one hotel is not a good reason to limit your stay in my opinion.

Vienna is not exactly hotel deprived.

And after you find one, call your original hotel and tell them that if they can't put you up for 3 nights that you are canceling.

I give even odds that they will give you 3 nights ** in the same room **. Make sure of that and get it in writing.

I had just two nights in Vienna a number of years ago and loved the full 48 hrs. (We stayed at the Kaiserin Elisabeth, right in the center of the ring it seemed, close to St. Stephen's, etc. Very nice hotel, busy location but triple glazed windows - and good beds, spotless large bath.)

Highlight was seeing Marriage of Figaro at the Stadtoper - the hotel concierge arranged tickets. Though expensive (can't remember - something in the $200 range) they were not particularly inflated: dead center in the dress circle, or whatever they called it there. Since it was Vienna, and Mozart, it was a great decision to take in the beautiful production with Margaret Wright - and to "be part of" our Viennese experience.

Didn't take any excursions outside the city, but didn't need to. A very full couple of days.

2 is better than none. I really enjoyed Vienna ... there are a ton of great museums and other sights worth seeing.

I've 'reserved' the hotel that we want to stay in and we're on a waiting list for the 3rd night if someone cancels, but I'm keeping my eyes out for some other hotels that are available all nights. I would of course love to give every city all the time in the world if I had it, but we've got 2 weeks and we're breaking our time up between Vienna(2-3 nights), Cesky Krumlov (2 nights), Prague (5 nights), and Budapest (4 nights). Thoughts on if I should trim any nights in any of these cities?

This is just an opinion. I have lived in both Prague and Vienna and have been many times to Cesky Krumlov. It is lovely, but personally, I would stay one night in Cesky Krumlov to have the extra day in Vienna. For me, 2 nights is just too little to explore that beautiful city.

Thank you romana! I was thinking that if I had to trim a night from somewhere that it would be Cesky Krumlov. Back to looking for some hotels in Vienna - any suggestions? We are slated to stay at Hotel Rathaus Wien (2 nights, wait list for 3rd)right now unless a comparable hotel is found available for 3 nights....

GOOD NEWS! I just emailed our hotel this morning and they had a cancellation - looks like we will be in Vienna for 3 nights - fantastic! Thanks for all the help!
