Ireland must-sees?
We are spending 6 nights in Ireland for our honeymoon before going to England to visit family. We fly into Shannon on May 25, where we pick up our rental car. We have B&B vouchers for each night and need to make our way to Dublin for our flight out. We would enjoy the outdoors, seeing the scenery, meeting people, generally relaxing and learning about history and culture. If anyone can offer suggestions on the must-see sights (we would like to go to the Dingle Penn.) or a suggested itinerary and route, we'd be extremely thankful. Though our travel agent found us great rates, we haven't been able to get any information from her. We are flexible, but would like to have a tentative plan.
Thank you in advance!
PS-this message was posted before, so apologies to those who have seen it.

Saw the earlier posting and, as usual, Bill is on the money. Here's a few places I visit each time I go back so, in effect, are my 'must sees'.

Galway and Connemara - great town for shopping, great area for getting away from it all. We try to visit different small towns each time like Clifden or Roundstone. Kinvara and castle.

The Burren - I just love this entire area and explore different bits and pieces.

Kilkenny - town and castle, great place to shop, too.

Wicklow - beautiful place to drive through, Vale of Avoca, Glendalough, Bray; I could go on...

Cahir - love the castle esp. and area

Dublin and environs - super place to shop is Grafton St even if only end up people watching from Bewley's, Newgrange/Knowth well worth it (get there early tho) and Trim Castle.

Congratulations on your wedding! Wish I had gone to Ireland for my honeymoon...
Wendy

Yes Dingle Peninsula is a MUST! Also, The Rock of Cashel - a humbling, jaw dropping site! Wow! I can tell you, 6 days will fly. If you can take the Beara Peninsula drive instead of the Ring of Kerry, you will have a smoother drive, less tourists buses, but still amazingly spectacular scenary. You are going to have a great time! Congrats on your wedding!

As for itineraries, and I am not sure this is doable in 6 days, you might look at driving Shannon> Dingle> Killarney> Kenmare> Kinsale> Cashel> Kilkenny> Dublin (with a stop at Glendalough). You might have to opt of Kinsale on this route though, since it goes down further South. This itinerary might be too much, let's see what some Ireland experts can advise. I would be happy to share with you some places we stayed.

Littletraveler - Yes those are all highpoints of a trip to Ireland, but JT would be killing him/herself to do it in 6 days.

Remember - you have to drive from place to place, and expect only about 35mph. ( and since this is their honeymoon, they don't want to be rushing from place to place every night)

If the above sights are what you want - try this
Day 1 - Drive to Dingle - see the area.
Day 2 - see a bit more of Dingle - Drive to either Killarney or Kenmare (for either the Ring of Kerry or Beara the next day.
Day 3 - same place as Day2 - for Ring or Beara.
Day 4 drive to Kilkenny - Stop in Cashel (Rock) and possibly Cahir to break up drive
Day 5 See Kilkenny & area
Day 6 Drive to Dublin via Glendalough & possibly powerscourt. Overnight Dublin
Fly out next morning.

Day

You could

Debbie, that sounds like an excellent itinerary!! Oh, the Irish roads and driving! LOL! I remember when we rented our car, it was a zippy, hip looking car, and it had the "M TV" logo on it (who knows why!!), and many times when we passed someone, we'd get a honk and a smile and wave if it was a young kid. I wonder if they thought we were with "MTV" or something. ;-)

Ah, but I digress. Anyway, I do think Debbie's itinerary is super. No matter what you do, you will have a great time. How can you not? You will be in Ireland AND on your honeymoon!
