Ireland itinerary help?

Husband and I are going for six days in mid Feb. Starting with two days in Dublin and then heading west. Kilkenny? Galway? Ennis? Want to hit the Cliffs of Moher for sure, and would love to stay in at least one smaller town. Thanks.

We're going to Dublin in mid January and will be going to Kilkenny for a day trip, by bus. It's €11.30 return on bus Eireann. Tickets can be purchased at www.buseireann.ie or buy while in Dublin for 13.50€ return. It's a 2 hr. 10 min. trip.

I assume you are also flying out of Dublin. Your drive from Dublin to the Cliffs will be at least four maybe five hours depending the Wx. and how comfortable you are driving on the wrong side. Keep in mind that you will not have alot of daylight so leave Dublin as early as possible. Your time at the Cliffs will be about an hour. I don't envy you making the walk up that hill in Feb. with wind coming in from the sea. You might as well spend the night in Doolin. Not my favorite but others love it. An alternative would be lisdoonvarna. From there you can drive north on the coast road around Blackhead. If you detour off the road at Ballyvaughn you can get a taste of the Burren. Then onto Ennis or Galway for the night. Drive back to Dublin to be around the airport for you last night. If you are flying out of Shannon or have another night let us know for more suggestions. Have fun

Thanks for the great advice. I was thinking our first day out of Dublin would be a short one, so we would stop in Kilkenny for the night. Then head to Ennis for two nights - with the idea of taking a day trip to the Cliffs. Sound reasonable?
