Ipad - French style?

Hi all. Well, I have succumbed and ordered an Ipad - available in Australia on May 28 hopefully!
I leave for Europe on June 26. Here is my question...I have ordered a WiFi and 3G model and in Australia it appears that we apparently then purchase a pre-paid sim card from a variety of carriers.
Is it as simple as just buying the same thing in France? I have had a quick look online and it seems that Orange will be selling pre-paid in France so can I just buy one of those and put in my aussie IPad and away I go? Too easy?
Hoping that someone more savvy with technology than me can confirm!
Thanks.

I've been wondering the same thing, but I recently found this: http://ipadnewshub.com/2010/05/maxro...ard-in-europe/

Is your iPad Simlocked? If so you may have a problem.

I had a look at buying a data Simcard in France (for my netbook) and it is not that easy according to various reports I've read.

I am not willing to pay for data roaming from the Netherlands, so I shall make do of any Wifi connections I can find, and otherwise be happily disconnected for a couple of weeks.

As I recall, the iPad uses a new micro SIM card, not compatible with the SIM cards used by everyone else. Just the Apple way to maintain maximum control over you! So even if your iPad is unlocked, there aren't many options. It looks like what options there are so far are fairly limited and expensive. You could probably buy a cheap netbook just for this trip and come out cheaper than trying to make your iPad work.
