We have rented in Garmisch several times. Easy and close to train station.

If we chose to do Berchtesgaden and Hallstatt as day trips from Salzburg, where would you suggest that we pick up the rental car for our time in Germany?>

Drive to Mittenwald and rent there. the next day perhaps saving one car rental day.

the Salzburg-Innsbruck train/road route is really scenic -not the fastest connection via Germany but the one that goes thru Alpine valleys the whole way -takes about an hour longer by train but so nice -Innsbruck is a short train ride or drive to Mittenwald.

Did you see my previous post above regarding your car rental?

I thought they could pick up a rental car in Berchetsgaden and drive back to Salzburg and thru Austria to Mittenwald.
