We've sent several friends and family mebers to The Modigliani, between the Spanish Steps (very close) and Trevi Fountain...10 minutes or less. Very quiet street just a block from Via Veneto...via Purificacion. Boutique hotel which several Fodorites also like.
Elevator, lovely garden, rooftop views..owners are professional folks, excellent full breakfast buffet.
Middle season in July will be about 170E's for a queen double. Charming place...see link:

Hi
Have you checked out the reviews for these hotels on http://www.tripadvisor.com ? Maybe that will give you an indication
My wife and I went to Rome in July 2005. I have posted a trip report with pictures on http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy.htm . Maybe you can find some useful info there. I have also made an interactive Google map of Rome on http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy_map.htm and it shows some of the attractions that we visited, places we went to eat etc. Hope it helps

Try searching Rome hotels on this Forum, for lots of good suggestions. We stayed at the Domus Julia and were very happy with it. Here's my trip report link, which includes other hotels which looked nice, and some good restaurants: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34813272

You're recommending the IC which, in July, will be $450 for the lowest priced room. And the OP asked for reco on either the Medici or Hotel Golden.
Medici is less than 200 euros while the Golden is a two-star at the unbelievable rate of 300 euros (some inequities here, I would say). But neither one approaches the aformentioned rate at the Intercontinental. Please be aware of this, tchat.
