In Mosel Valley for three nights in July—any wineries to recommend?
My husband and I will be staying in Beilstein for three nights in mid-July. We live in California and love wine. We will have a car and enjoy driving through the countryside. We’ll visit Burg Eltz while we are there, but would also love to visit a winery or two and taste some local wines. Any suggestions for us? Is there a German term for wine tasting that is posted on signs that might be helpful to us? We know that wine tasting traditions are different all over the world. Do we need a reservation to visit and taste in Germany? Thanks so much for your help.

OMG--Lucky you!
The area will be dotted with little local wineries.
Look for Weinprobe or Weinprobierung -wine tasting.
Places offering are 'Winzerhaus' or 'Weingasthaus'. The town of
Winnigen (across the Mosel) had a nice tasting session, but for the life of me, I cannot recall the name of the business.
Not a far drive, on the Rhein, is Bacharach (after wine god Bacchus). Lovely town with many Weinprobe. Well worth a visit.
What memories!
Too bad your trip wasn't in September, when wine festivals abound in all the small towns!

Here's a list of wineries by town. The bulk seem to be west of Cochem. Many vintners offer accommodations as well. Once you've clicked on a location, you'll find further links to the vinters' websites. Most of this is in German but you can glean addresses and contact info. easily enough.

My favorite Mosel town is Cochem. Here's a list of wineries with contact info. under "Weingüter und Weinbaubetriebe in Cochem"

Scroll to the bottom for a list of wine cellars in Cochem under "Weinkellereien in Cochem".
Also, to search for the town mokka4 suggested, you'll need the correct spelling - 4 n's: WINNINGEN

Thank you Russ, hetismij and mokka4! This is great information. Looks like we'll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the wine. Russ, do you have any favorites among these the wineries listed?

We personally enjoyed the extensive wine tasting at Wein- und Sektkellerei Hieronimi in Cochem.
