Susan,
You are a blessed saint! You must consider joining us for the Beltane tour 2001. Really, I'm sitting here having dinner with the hubsters, listening to "Tommy" and some how we got onto this song and he thought it was Steppenwolf. Is this forum not the best?

Grazie Mille,
Dr. Betty

A funny bit on the Simpsons featured the Springfield Church choir and congregation singing In a Godda Da Vita ala "churchy organ" style.

Dr. B, if you've got a hankering for Iron Butterfly, you can download it fo' free over at www.napster.com.

If I'm not mistaken that is a chorus of "Lady Marmalade" by that great belter, Patti LaBelle

I would go with Brewer & Shipley over Patti LaBelle (much earlier than her!)
but, as with most things from that period of my life...it all exists in one big "haze"y fog.
nancy

Getting this thread back to Europe... *grin*
Any of you been to Amsterdam to relive those "hazy daze" of your wicked youth?
My wife and I were there last Spring and naturally just HAD to sample the wares at a "coffee shop". It had been a good 15 years since we had last indulged (actually, when our first child was born - interesting how such things make you instantly serious about life). Anyhow, we had a great time seeing the city with a pleasant buzz. We're still clean & sober back here in the States, but it sure was fun to visit Amsterdam!

Hah! Maybe this is the place where people knowledgeable about everything under the sun can FINALLY help me with something that's bugged me for decades. What is the second line of "Blinded by the Light"?

(This relates to Europe because I've been there, it's nice, I like it, and this forum seems attract proportionately more smart people there than others, or at least more knowledgable.)
Dr. Betty: Wichi Tai Tai is definitely Brewer & Shipley. I have the album, the title of the album is "Weeds."
Chikn -
Ah, the second line of "Blinded By The Light". That's a classic of misunderstood lyrics... what's known in the trade as a "mondagreen" (derivation too complicated to explain). Go to:
http://www.thechicagoloop.net/lyrics/
They've got a ton of them, and many will make you laugh so hard you cry.)
Here's what they say about the line from the song by Mannfred Mann's Earth Band" (later covered by Bruce Springsteen):
Heard as:
"Wrapped up like a douche, another runner in the night"
Actually:
"Revved up like a deuce, another runner in the night"
(It relates to some kind of hotrod engine... I think.)

- Bill

PS. Remember Elton John's "Hold me closer, tiny dancer"? Some people are convinced he said "hold me closer, Tony Danza".... Makes sense in a perverse way. Just like Jimi Hendrix's "Scuze me while I kiss this guy". *grin*

makes me remember a funny story... (second hand - and not apocryphal - I fully trust the source)

there was a radio station, growing up, which (of course) played the actual vinyl albums (of course, that's all they had back then).

anyway, late one night a DJ must have fallen asleep and this song had a skip at the end and played and played and played and played and played..... I don't know how long, must have been hours. or something.

anyway, a few days later some stoner called in to the same radio station requesting the "2 hour version of In a Gadda Da Vida" and was quite serious!

HA HA HA

ok, maybe it's a location joke - you had to be there.
<BR

Yes indeed!

Brewer and Shipley it is. What does whichi tai tai and the rest of that phrase mean? I'm sure I heard it as a mondagreen... have now been listening to it all on Napster (thank's to my 13 yr.old daughter). Have to go now and check out this website that Bill has mentioned. But before I go, I've gotta think of the movie that Whiteside has hinted at. I may have to find it on the Iron Butterfly website. The best I've narrowed it down to is that a "crime capper" would be a light kind of mystery as opposed to a mass murder blood and gore kind of a thing. So that brings to mind Peter Sellers. Am I close?

Dr. Betty

Dr. Betty: OK, I went and dug out the album. The correct spelling is Witchi-tai-to. I don't know what the line means, but it certainly sounds Native American and there is a picture on the album of an Indian brave on a horse with his arms stretched out and looking up as if he's praying. I thought there might be some explanation inside, but no such luck.
