Right you are--there's a bad moon on the rise
Another one--Up on the Roof (The Platters??)
The roof gets so hot you wish your feet were by a pool
The right lyrics--the roof gets so hot you wish your feet were fireproof
Great thread!

This thread has been a ton of fun; much better than the Florida ones.
Santa Chiara: here it is:
God Bless America.
Land that I love
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies ,
To the oceans, white with foam

Sometimes, you don't even know you have a Mondegren on your hands. For example, the lyrics to the Beatles' "Being For the Benefit of Mr. Kite" are: "The Hendersons will all be there/Late of Pablo Fanque's fair/What a scene..."

Even though I have the album with the lyrics printed right on the back, after 33 years, I still hear, "The Hendersons will all be there/later Pablo, Frank, Astaire/what a scene..."

Hey, Elvira, I am pretty sure Van Halen was singing "Animal", not "padded bra"! That is how I always heard it!

kim, *love* your version of the Van Halen classic!

Finally, I'll confess: I was in my 30's when my sister clued me in that "Groovin'" by the Rascals was not about a menage a trois "you and me and Leslie".

Neal, thanks for the Motorcycle Mama - it's been killing me for years, not knowing the name of that song!

I just remembered another one from a long time ago, children's choir at church "Good King Wenceslas looked out, on the feet of Stephen". Honest, it wasn't me, it was another kid.

The correct Van Halen lyrics are "Panama". How about any of the words to "Louie Louie"?

Louie Louie!! NOW we're getting to the Mega-Mondgreen.

Go to

A website devoted exclusively and exhausively to the song. In the links section is a site that has the "dirty" version contained in FBI files (it's even dirty than I remember) as well as the REAL version, which seems to diverge a fair amount from what the Kingsmen were singing (there's no line that even REMOTELY resembles "Tonight at 10:00, I'll lay her again").

One night a guy phoned up a local radio station and requested. "Slow walking Walter, the fire engine guy' by Deep Purple. They liked that so much they wrote complete lyrics and recorded the song to play regularly.

Remember a song called 'D-I-S-C-O' where every letter was pronounced individually ?

My eldest Daughter used to sing along with it on the radio, only she sang

There was also a song called 'Guilty' where the Chorus went 'I'm guilty, guilty as a girl can be'. My Son thought 'Guilty' was 'Girlty' so when HE sang along with the radio he sang
'I'm boyty, boyty as a boy can be'.

I play Guitar & once played in a band with a guy who wanted to do the Steely Dan song "Reelin' in the East".

I once had a girlfriend whos favourite band was Yes. Because the lead singer's
name was spelt Jon ( Anderson) she insisted on pronouncing it 'Yon'.
