Well if you posted this then why can't you post the trip report? Just type. What's the exact problem?

Sorry, this site is giving me a headache today.

I can't post a Word doc. My screen name is showing and I changed the font to Courier from Times Roman, but the site won't post the message.

Any suggestions? (It took me three months to type it, now there's a problem.) You just can't win sometimes.

I will reboot for the third time.

I'm, copying and pasting, so that's the problem. I don't want to retype the entire report.

Maybe your posting is too long, try to cut it in small parts...

I would start by saving a copy of the report on your computer as a txt document and then use that to copy and paste. Can you try to copy and paste a segment that way and see what happens?

I copy and paste from a Word document all the time. I just do the report in pieces - several posts on the same thread.

Hi I,

Save your report as a text document.

Break it up into about 400 word portions.

If you've got pages and pages in a Word document, trying to cut/paste it onto Fodor's doesn't work very well. Just cut/paste a day at a time, adding subsequent pages into the same thread.

Okay, I'll try breaking the report up into time segments.

It's a good idea to break trip reports up into segments, posting each addition as a reply to the same thread, partly because it makes it easier for people to read in bites, but mainly because it brings the thread up to the top repeatedly, so more people get to see it and add comments.

just post it on a website or some other public space that is freely available and give us a link. if it is a long report that took months to write, you may want to retain your exclusive copyrights to it. if you post it directly here, fodors owns it.

Can't understand why you should have problems in cutting and pasting word docs onto a post, I do it all the time. As for the 400 word cut-off, I have never seen this, one time I printed out a trip report on Fodors that ran to 8 pages of A4 on 10 point font, personally I find this too much information for one post, but it seems I am a minority.

I have definitely had the problem myself. Never did figure out why it was happening, and the problem disappeared as mysteriously as it had started.

It might be that Word has all sorts of hidden formatting code in it that increase the memory load enormously. The servers might just have been overloaded. Save it to text format and/or pass it through Notepad to clear out any code. Breaking it up into segments also makes it easier to read on screen.
