I'm back! It's me D.J.

Hi everyone, just thought that I would stop in and see how its going. I have been over at Lonely Planet for a few weeks. Is it safe to come back here now? Has most of the name calling and personal put downs died down? By the way, I cant believe how many new pals I have made at Lonely Planet. I have several pen pals now, and am even meeting up with one soon. Cheers! D.J.

Hi Jen, curious what branch of the LP you visit, I found it either foul mouthed and full of space cadets.

I'm not Jen, but .. for Curious: I check out the 'Central & Eastern Europe & Caucasus' on the Lonely Planet Thorn Tree pretty regularly. There are some silly, pointless posts, and some rude ones, but there's also a lot of good information on some destinations that don't get as much exposure on a lot of the more mainstream travel boards. If you're heading off the 'beaten track' in Eastern Europe or thinking about it, I'd recommend that board.

I used Lonely Planet quite a bit for my trip to Poland and Romania. As Chris wrote, a lot more people over there have traveled to central and eastern Europe than fodorites and got a lot of good information. Yes there can be rude posts but in general, there was nowhere the amount of vicious and nasty posts that there were here for a couple of months.<BR>

There are a lot of rude and pointless posting on Loney Planet.I still prefer it to Fodors because there is more socialization going on. I am not planning another trip for a while and like to talk about other things besides travel. If you dont want to be offended stay away from the MR, WT, YC, branches. Stick to the Departure Lounge for good travel advice. I found this site while preparing for my last vacation. One part of lonely planet that I think would be a nice addition to Fodors is the Private Mail that is offered.

Socialization? Maybe you need to get out and talk to some breathing human beans.
