If you add a Prague Excusion Pass to your Eurail Pass, does a trip within Prague use up a day of your pass?

I want to go from Prague to Dresden, Germany. I think the border town is Dicen. Does it use a day of my Eurail pass to travel the distance from Prague to Dicen? From there I just plan to buy 2nd class tickets to Dresden and not use the pass at all. Can anyone assure me one way or the other? Thank you for your help.

I am reasonably certain that the trip from Prague to Dicen is covered by your Prague Excursion Pass and doesn't affect your Eurail Pass at all.

Thank you Kristine. That's what I thought. Does anyone know if indeed Dicen is the border town from which I will buy a ticket to Dresden?<BR>Thanks again.

If you look on the DeutscheBahn website, it looks like Decin is the last stop in the Czech Republic. The border is actually at Schna(Gr) but there is no stop there. So you would probably want to buy (at the Prague train station) a ticket from Schona to Dresden, but buying one from Decin to Dresden would be fine also -- just a little overlap there. Do you know the Deutsche Bahn site? It is excellent for planning. The URL is http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e

If you haven't already bought the Prague Excursion Pass, you might pass on that pass. It is a little doubtful if it saves money (over the 2nd class prices). Of course, I think it is a 1st class pass so that may make it worthwhile. I always ride 2nd class trains in the Czech Republic, but they are not as good as second class trains in Western Europe. But it is a way to get closer to the people! Both literally and figuratively!

Thanks Kristine. The reason I am buying the Prague Excursion pass is because I am taking the night train from Zurich into Prague. I am buying a first class compartment for my family. When I get to the border, I don't want to shift to the 2nd class section at 6:00 in the morning with all our stuff. The first class excursion pass, I assume, will just let us stay put the distance into Prague. Thanks for your help. I appreciate the info about Decin.
