Hello - I am traveling to Munich in early November with my parents and another adult. We are planning on staying over the first night in Munich and are looking for suggestions for the following two nights. We are interested in traveling in the direction of either Zurich and Vienna and are interested if anyone has suggestions for small towns/sights/things to do/places to overnight in either direction. Any accomodations suggestions would also be greatly appreciated. And finally, does anyone know what type of weather we might expect the first week in November? Thanks!<BR>

Hi Nicole. You should definetly take a train to Garmish or Mittlewald. Trains leave Munich I beleive on an hourly basis for this area. Both are beautiful towns in the Bavarian Alps and only about an hour from Munich.

Agree with previous poster - I would go down to Neuschwanstein and check out the castles down there (they are very famous and beautiful). If you're lucky (or unlucky) it might snow early and you'll get a picture perfect shot at the castles (like you see in all the pictures). Have a great time!

Z&uuml;rich is at best 4.5 hours from Munich. Vienna is about the same the opposite way, only about 30 minutes more in travel time.<BR>From Munich I can suggest Salzburg, about an hour and a half, and Berchtesgaden.<BR>There are also other castles worth seeing: Herrenchiemsee and Linderhof.<BR>Also on the way to Fu&szlig;en for a visit to Neuschwanstein, the Wieskirche is a Baroque masterpiece. It does not totally look it from the outside, but the inside is beautiful.<BR>Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a reasonable destination not all that far from Fu&szlig;en.<BR>And there are several towns along the Romantic Road. <BR>Don't underestimate Munich, either.<BR>There are enough activities there to occupy your time for 3 days, if you like art! The Science and Industry Museum is a marvel.<BR>

Hi, Nicole. Thought you were definite about Z&uuml;rich. If not, I suggest focusing on the area between Lindau in the west and Salzburg, or maybe Hallstatt, in the east, then narrow your possibilities even further. It might be only 4-5 hours on the Autobahn to Vienna and Z&uuml;rich, but that's time you will spend in your car zooming past everything. Vienna is impossible to see with even 3 full days in town, really. And with only 2+ days and very limited daylight hours, you won't see much of the towns or the culture in between your hotel stops if you overdo the km's. If you head east as far as Salzburg, Berchtesgaden and nearby K&ouml;nigssee are nice stops and not too far off your route.<BR><BR>

Just got back from a tour of Austria and Switzerland. I would highly recommend Salzburg and the mountain at Berchtesgaden. You must park at Obersalzburg and special buses run you to the top of the mountain. The view is unbelievable! Don't miss these two special places.

In no particular preference:<BR>1. Mittenwald<BR>2. Dachau<BR>3. Salzburg<BR>4. Innsbruck<BR>5. Bounce back and forth between Hofbrau House and Augustiener beer gardens!
