OK , well I'm back - sorry for the delay but 2 deaths and funerals of loved family members in less than 6 months have made me realise that grief is a serious de-motivator

We arrived in the UK on a 8:45am flight so by the time we'd collected our car and drove to Bracknell it was after 10am, we hung around at my In-Laws house for a couple of hours catching up with family but by 1pm I was shattered (I don't sleep on overnight flights) I'd been awake for over 30 hours. We called the hotel to see if the room was ready and was told "Yes, but there is a 10gbp charge for an early check in.

When we did check in 2 hours later I went straight to bed while my DH ran some errands. I couldn't sleep! There was no problem with the room, basic as expected but since all I wanted to do was sleep? That wasn't a problem.

BUT, the children running around the corridors were! There wasn't a phone in the room to call reception, so I redressed and went downstairs. I spoke a lady called SHOVA and explained that I'd got off of an international overnight flight and had a funeral to attend the next morning and needed to sleep. SHOVA assured me that she'd have a word with the parents of the children, All I can say is it must have been a very, very quiet word because the noise didn't stop and the children didn't stop running around.

Finally my DH came back to the hotel and I gave up trying to sleep, we went out for a meal with family and came back to the hotel late at night. The next day we cancelled our reservations for the next 5 nights.

We spent the next 2 nights at the Hilton. Twice the price but the room was twice the size, plus it had extras that the TL didn't provide - it had a tub as well as a shower, a big screen TV, a clock (is it that hard to provide a clock?), a phone, hairdryer and a complimentary bottle of wine.

alya - your post seems to have stopped half-way - did you finally drop off to sleep?

do we gather that you prefer the Hilton? wonder what the TL management will have to say about that?

This was post about the TL not the Hilton. I hate to say bit the Hilton was significantly better - although at a higher cost.

I bet the TL don't come back at all but if they do I hope they will refund our room cost to my FIL who paid for the room.

BTW - the guy on reception when my DH went down to cancel our reservations said he would have to call their central booking and offered the reception phone for my DH to cancel the next 5 nights, this is the one redeeming feature of the whole stay.

We didn't make it to France
