All my sympathies to the American people. I am so very sorry, too.

I just got home and watch CNN television. I hardly can hold back my tears. It's too much.

I hope all you fodorites are fine.
Please do make your scheduled trips to Europe. It may help to get over this tragedy and you will encounter a lot of sympathy here, I am sure.

Thank you, Ursula.

I have heard unconfirmed reports that air travel in the USA might be suspended for as long as a week, while heightened security measures are installed in all our airports. If this turns out to be true, it should be a surprise to absolutely no one.

I, for one, plan on going to Paris. I will absolutely not allow some hoodlum terrorist cowardly thugs put me into such a state of fear & panic that I am unable to see all the world has to offer. I believe doing that would signal victory for them, & I am unwilling, on a personal level, to do that.

Thank you to all our European Fodorites who have offered their compassion, concern, tears, outrage, shock & contempt at what happened today in America. Bless you all.

BC

And for you Ursula:

@--->---->---->------

Thank you, Helen and Ursula. And BC, echo here from Atlanta: nothing other than authorities will keep me off that plane.
I send a hug and to everyone personally affected, pray for healing of wounds, and hope we can all resist the urge to hate and distrust (difficult to do, isn't it?).
Ila

I am also sorry for the loss of the Americans and all other nationalities who had international offices and branches in the Trade Center. Such a tragedy...there are no words.

Thank you, thank you, thank you... to all our friends everywhere. This is a true community.
My son, who is on the road constantly with a band, finally checked in and is safe in Detroit.
My friend of over 30 years, an executive at Grand Central Station, phoned to say she's fine, the devestation is horrendous "in person," but New Yorkers have come together in incredible ways.
I happened to be in Mass doing the readings for a friend's mother's funeral between the second hit and the Pentagon hit. At the risk of sounding corny, I was grateful to have an opportunity to be on my knees to get in early prayers for everyone in NY.
Finally, loads of us were turned away when trying to give blood around noon. If you are also, PLEASE call and get an appointment for next week--they'll be needing it for a long time. This is a wake up (for me, at least), not to wait until an emergency. If we can give blood, we should set up appointments just as we would for our hair or nails and do it regularly--perhaps four times a year.
Finally, Tony Blair was wonderful today--a true statesman who's expressions of support rang absolutely true and I, for one, will never forget it.
Thanks for letting me get this out...

The expressions of support and care from our European friends are especially precious as we face the enormity of the situation. In our case personal emails from Macedonia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Belgium, France and Norway have helped us feel less alone.

My deepest sympathy & condolences from Australia. You are all in my thoughts & prayers. Even though I'm living on the other side of the world I am still stunned, scared & sick to my stomach at the senseless destruction & loss of life.
The only place I've been in the US is NYC & I fell in love with it. Its an amazing strong vibrant cosmopolitan city full of people from many different walks of life & it will rise again.
I'm so very sorry for all Americans & the world at large as this impacts everyone everywhere.

Ila: I see a multiplicity of reasons to harbor intense hatred toward certain sects/individulas as a result of (as well as prior to) cowardly terroristic acts perpetrated against innocent civilians. Get real. There will be severe ramifications from these events, though they may be played out over many months or years.

Mel: there will likely be no significant shortage of blood products on the east coast of the US. Relatively few people were seriously injured and survived. This was largely a set of all or none injuries.

Lights of Democracy
To all of our European friends, THANK YOU for your expressions of sympathy and support. Please know that the light of American democracy cannot be extinguished by even the most heinous acts of terrorism.

And to the Americans: Turn on your headlights whenever you drive to let the world know that
America has the strength and commitment to sustain the light and promise
of American democracy even on its darkest day. Let there be millions
of these beacons across our country that will send a clear signal that
Americans are united in our opposition to terrorism.
Pass this on to your e-mail distribution lists.

Although I cannot seem to describe what I am feeling right now, I also wanted to send sympathies to you from Israel. The prime minister has called for a Day of Mourning here today. Also it is my understanding that they are soliciting type 0 blood donors(universal donor) to send to the US. Unfortunately neither my husband or I have type O and I feel so utterly helpless. I wish that I could help some how. If there is anything please let me know via this forum.

My heart and prayers are with you.

Thank you friends from across the world for your kind words and prayers for our injured, deceased, their families, and all Americans. We will overcome this horrific tragedy, and attend to these evil terrorists. Our pain will soon turn to anger and retribution. No more mercy for the radicals and extremist. We must destroy them!

I'm devastated. I live in Tokyo and I woke up this morning with the Japanese news showing recorded pictures of the WTC burning. I was shocked. Then, eventually I saw the 2nd plane hit (all recorded earlier) and then the collapse of the two building. I couldn't believe my eyes. I felt like I did when Bobby Kennedy was killed (I was 6). I went to bed and the world was okay and I woke up with madness. It is all so surreal. Will we ever be the same?

My thoughts and prayers go out to all Americans and those affected by this devastating tragedy.
Like many, I woke on the other side of the world to this news with shock, horror and disbelief. Has the world gone mad?
Book Chick, your words and those of others who refuse to be bowed, are inspiring. As the long as the flame of the human spirit burns....
May the dawn bring a brighter day.
