Hydrofoil or train fr Budapest to Vienna?

We are going to Budapest, Vienna and Prague in mid June and were going to take the train from Budapest to Vienna when someone mentioned that we should take the hydrofoil instead. Would appreciate comments regarding the hydrofoil and which way would be best - time, scenery - etc.

Thanks, Judy

Someone gives you bad information.

The hydrofoil is much slower than the train, scenery not that great, much more expensive.

for train look at this site

www.oebb.at

for hydrofoil

www.ddsg-blue-danube.at

cost for hydrofoil
89 euro versus about 40 euro for the train

When we visited Prague, Vienna and Budapest (in that order) we too considered the hydrofoil. I posted here, asking about the same thing. Every response I got was negative. Price, length of time it took, and the scenery was not that great. That, plus the fact that at that time they allowed smoking in the closed cabin, nixed the idea for us. We enjoyed our train trips between cities, were quite comfortable and were very glad we decided to make that our mode of travel.

Take an evening cruise on the Danube in Budapest, when the city is so beautiful with lights on many buildings, the Chain Bridge lit up and the beautiful Parliament Building shining brightly.

We took a day-trip to Szentendre on a local train and a hydrofoil (again on the Danube) back to Budapest. It made a very pleasant round trip and Szentendre is a charming little town.

Take the train or, if possible, hire a car and driver. It's more expensive but much more convenient and interesting. Also, you will have door-to-door service.
