McDonald's in the 7th?
Before I get reamed for asking this... I need my diet coke in the morning like some need their coffee. I prefer fountain drinks with ice in them - something about the carbonation just makes diet coke taste better.
We're staying in an apt in the 7th, corner of Ave Rapp and Rue St. Dominique. Will I be able to find fountain drinks anywhere nearby, like a Mickey D's or BK or will I just have to settle for buying a case of Diet Coke at the Monoprix?

I also need my diet coke in the morning, however in France I have learned to take it anyway I can get it (without ice, with 1 ice cube, warm, flat, etc). I always grab some at the first grocery store I see, because you just don't know where you are going to find it. Good Luck!

Well, if you are in an apt., why don't you buy some and keep it in your frig?
They don't have any McDonalds in the 7th. The closest would probably be one in the 15th -- they have one on rue Linois near place Charles Michels and one at the corner of rue de Commerce and bd de Grenelle (near Motte Piquet metro).

Type the address in (trouver une ...) and you can find the distance and locate it on a map.

in reference to the carbonation--canned or bottled soda isn't quite exactly the same as what is made in restaurants from syrup mixed with carbonated water. This enables the mix to be adjusted so it is more or less highly flavored or carbonated.
Many people prefer one over the other, Jenblase evidently being one of those.
Myself, I'm a 6oz little-bottle Coca-Cola or nothing person...

Is McDonalds the only place in Paris where they sell Coca Cola light from the fountain ? I didn't know, there are a lot of places who serve drinks from the fountain (we say here in Spain "de barril" (from the barrel) ) here in Spain. With ice..of course.

jen, I, too, have to have my morning fix of caffeine in the form of Diet Coke. You'll probably have to settle for Coke Lite, though. It doesn't taste that much different.
Don't know about fountain drinks, but it's unlikely they will be served with ice. Your best bet is to buy a case once you get there. I have to admit, though, I always take two cans in my carry on and pack two in my checked luggage in case of emergency.

I'm with you too, Jen, I need my diet coke in the morning. If you're in an apt., I think you'll have to pick up some bottles and keep it in the refrigerator. Or, check the nearest bakery - that was where I got my fix last year. Myself, I prefer a can to the plastic bottle, but cans are hard to find.

There's a McD's on Boulevard St. Michel...in the 6th, I believe. Near the Sorbonne/Latin Quarter anyway.
Although I don't have your problem, I have a friend who starts every day with a fast-food purchased Diet Coke with ice, so I'm familiar with it.

Diet Coke in the morning? Wow! Who would've thought that many people started the day like that? I've never had a Diet Coke in my whole life, and maybe only a half-dozen actual Cokes.
What am I missing? I like a cup of tea in the morning, or an espresso if I'm tired. But Diet Coke? Do you eat breakfast? I'm really trying hard to imagine having a Diet Coke with a bagel or eggs and toast or cereal....what am I missing?

Got to confess, I am a Diet Coke in the AM person. However, I tend to stash it in my room and drink it while getting ready. Breakfast is usually tea, water or Choclate (the last option only I only get in Europe)
For those of you who think "that's horrid" please keep in mind that's what most of us Diet Coke drinkers think about that coffee stuff you drink!
