How's TrenItalia's website working now?
Although I never bothered booking train tickets in advance, the Amica fares and Ira's advice got me to try it, even after all those threads about all the problems. I just thought perhaps the site is working now. NOT!!! Is anyone else unable to pay with US credit cards?

I recently purchased two tickets on Trenitalia; I wish I'd booked for them together. The first one went through quite well. The second was rejected. I tried another card, which was rejected. Minutes later both card companies called me, suspecting fraud. I thought I straightened it out, but one card still didn't work, and Trenitalia locked me out of the site. I had to submit for reinstatement and wait 24 hours. Then I was reinstated but my card was rejected (because it had been used on my "frozen" account), and I was locked out again. Anyway it took several days but I finally was able to book.

RNSuzanne - how were you able to finally book. Both my Amex and MC were rejected and I needed to apply for reinstatement. Amex cleared the problem, but when I tried using my work e-mail to open another account, it booted me out for using the card on two diffent accounts. Now I'm waiting for reinstatement on both accounts!
I didn't about notifying my credit card companies about the transactions because I just bought SENA bus tickets online and didn't have any problems.

I just ordered a few days ago from the Trentalia site.
Two tickets from ven to Flor.
Then two from Flo. to Rome.
I had all sorts of problems with payment with Visa.
They were not taking my card even though I kept putting in all the right info.
Then I phoned Visa and sure enough Visa has started a new Visa security for online purchases only. Not all sites have joined up yet but if you look at the list of who has, Trentalia is on there.
Visa walked me through there web site and I got a password for online purchses.
Then I went to Back to Trentalia, and when I put in Visa number this time , it had automatically asked for my password and everything went thru without a hitch.
Then I did the next segment of my trip and it took only seconds to get it all done.

OK thanks for the responses. Looks like it's still very much the same hit or miss with no rhyme or reason. I'll just keep buying tickets after I get to Italy. I have had very good luck with the machines at Termini and there are so many I have not seen lines.
