How would one get from Greece to Egypt?
I'm sorry if I am posting this on the wrong board. I'm just hoping that someone very knowledgeable in Greece may be able to give me a good answer.
This is a long way off, but DH and I are planning on going to Greece on a long vacation in a few years, a celebration of my (finally) finishing my undergrad degree and also a kind of last European adventure before we start having children. We would like to spend about a week in Turkey, followed by a week in Greece and a half week in Egypt. We are considering a cruise that stops in Alexandria or Port Said, but my concern is that we wouldn't have nearly enough time in the ports. The one benefit to the cruise is that we could easily get to Egypt. We really want to see Egypt, and we thought that if we were already close to it, we could hopefully work it in to our vacation plans.
Okay, now my question. I am not finding any information on how to get from Greece (or Turkey) to Egypt. I researched aa.com and the trip would costs thousands (yes, that thousands is supposed to be plural) to get from Greece to Egypt. I'm hoping that there is a ferry or some kind of low-fare carrier that can get us there. I tried whichbudget.com but to no avail. I saw that there was the Salamis ferry that went from Cyprus to Port Said, but the schedule online is for 2002, so I'm not sure if its still running.
Any advice?
Thanks!
Tracy

Salamis is no longer servicing that route. If you don't want to take a cruise ship the only other alternative is to fly. Egyptair and Turkish Air both fly from Athens to Cairo if I'm not mistaken, although it's possible that if you fly on Turkish Airlines you'll have to backtrack to Istanbul first.

tcreath,
Not sure why you're using the aa.com site to check for flights between Turkey/Greece and Egypt...
Anyway, as of today, Olympic Airlines flies daily from Athens to both Cairo and Alexandria. They are on VERY shaky financial ground though, who knows if they'll be around several years from now. Whoever takes over should they fail will probably pick up the routes though.

Turkish Airlines flies daily from Istanbul to Cairo - horrible flight times though.

Ticket prices for one-way travel on these routes are likely to be very high. Try booking a roundtrip fare, (with a Saturday night "stay"
even if you only use the outbound leg, as this is often cheaper.
Hope this helps,
Andre

Thank you all so much for your help! I greatly appreciate it. I will check into the airlines and links that were given.
Andre, I don't know why I checked AA either. I guess because I was at a loss and I didn't know the names of the other carriers so I thought I would give it a shot.
Thanks again!

My traveling college daughter is currently in Egypt; she flew there from Athens last week on Egyptair. It was a reasonable fare but to make it work, she had to book a round trip from Athens (actually also a roundtrip from Rome to Athens too). To return to Rome, she'll be flying back to Athens from Cairo and then flying from Athens to Rome. When we looked at one-way fares, it was way higher than doing these roundtrips. All this flying is still costing her less in both time and money than the ferries she looked. Hope this helps.

UPDATE: on Saturday, May 20, ANEK LINES (www.anek.gr) introduces a new ferry service from Piraeus to Alexandria via Heraclion. Information on sailings, schedules, prices, time of journey etc will be available in the near future.
