How to text and call home and friend

I have a new phone and will be trying to use it in Europe for the first time.

I will need to text home to the US and also a friend with a Belgian number. I will be in Portugal at the time.

What numbers do I push before I get to the area/city code?

DH can't even figure out how to text me when we are both home. What numbers does he push to text me there?

thanks...

if this is your american phone people from the USA still dial your number as usual.

once in europe..YOU will have to put the 00+country code (usa-1, portugal-351, belgium -32)before the number.

here is a link to all int'l codes

The same numbers he can't figure out when you're both home. Doesn't sound too hopeful to me.

Thanks for the help. I feel more confident now.

I'll just make him text me while I'm sitting next to him as practice.

That's what I was going to suggest - if it's an European phone number that you can use in the US, try it from home first to make sure you can call your house with the phone. You can also try texting DH while you both sit at home.

Once I figure out what number to use to call home (I've had various phones with various country's SIM cards), I immediately program it into the phone, so I don't have to keep remembering how to do it. I also use the home phone to call the int'l phone, to make sure it works that way too. Good luck.

The easiest thing to do is program the numbers in, complete with the country prefix. If you use the + button instead of 00 it will only use the international prefix when you are travelling.
All the numbers in my phone memory are stored this way, even my own home number.
