My Global Entry is also good for 5 years.

The OP has not been back to reply, but don't you guys think that the lines won't be nearly as long at KC airport, since it's not such a huge hub? I always fly out of Ohare, but am thinking of using one of the nearby regional airports because I could avoid a long wait (although I have GE and Pre-check).

Another thought... family members (one who has GE/Pre) will fly to ZRH end of this month, on Swiss. Pre-check doesn't do them any good at the international terminal, terminal 5, at Ohare, if I recall correctly. They plan to be there at least 3 hours ahead of flight time. The OP did not say if they were flying a US airline or an international one. I've never flown via Charlotte, so I have no idea if one would have to use a separate terminal for an international airline departure.

Agree, Global Entry is good for 5 years. We've recently renewed ours from 2011. It's such a time saver and relieves stress of waiting but the downside, you still have to wait for your luggage. Another upside of GE is a dedicated line thru customs once you do get your luggage.

>>you still have to wait for your luggage. always fly carry-on only. What with Global Entry, and no hanging around the luggage carousel I am often in a cab on the way to my hotel before others on my flight are even through immigration.

Gosh only $100 to sneak a bomb onto an aircraft. I wonder if Daesh have got $100....

Just get in the line and behave.

tv pictures full of queues, give me a break.

TV pictures full of horrors all over the world and people want to dodge the queue that (slightly) keeps them safe. Maybe the latest flight to Egypt might have kept going if there a few more brighter people in the world.

Sorry, I'm normally a cheerful guy but "come-on guys get with the programme" why should I have to trust that when you got you "pass-Go" ticket you were not about to be radicalised, or you new "son-in-law" was about to starting sticking plasticine in your overnight bags.

It's a form of public transport, use it accordingly. You know, don't put your shoes on the chairs, don't litter, don't hog the arm rest and don't step out of your responsibility to all-our safety.

Aaargh! Fuming.

First and Business may or may not get you into a separate TSA lane and it is a hell of a lot more expensive than getting Global Entry.

I would do the easiest thing: get to the airport early and be patient. And also, for the rest of us make sure you don't have to go back and forth through that scanner because yes you do know what is expected and WE expect YOU to play your part.

Just FYI for all those recommending Global Entry: A friend of mine applied a couple of weeks ago and just found out that the first interview appointment in our area is not until November. Not sure if that would be the same in all areas or for Precheck. Just a heads up.

I have a Global Entry card and used it on a recent trip to Europe, but once through customs I did not have pre heck for my domestic flight. Do I need to contact the airline with my Known traveler Number?

Global Entry is good for 5 years and you get the TSA pre-check numbers for $100. You have to fill out a form and do the interview as posters above have said. It has been very helpful in getting me out of JFK quickly. As far as the check in lines, for departure the TSA pre-approval line went smoothly. Only six ahead of me.
I just flew back from Heathrow and agree that Terminal 3 is very efficient in getting people through security.
All of this is dependent on the day you travel and number of flights going out, etc.
