Well, Louis XIII, Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI spent their lives there...
You make it sound like an obligation to go there. It is not!!!
Versailles is an entire complex: 3 castles, a huge park with gardens, forest, fountains,..., employing about 900 people today. A huge part of it is serving as a museum, in which the Grands Appartements are included.
An enormous restoration project started in 2003 is still going on.
If you are really interested, you could spend a week there. A normal visit can take a day, also because it is not in the center of Paris (30 km).
Have a look at Palais de Versailles on Wikipedia to get a feel of it. And an audioguide always helps.

It is worth a full day with a lunch stop at one of the garden restaurants. The audioguide is essential if you want to learn anything about the palace. You can escape the crowds by wandering to the farthest reaches of the gardens. The fountains only run on certain days/times - they are quite impressive but not required for a nice visit. Don't miss Marie Antoinette's Hameau. I agree with baldrick though - it doesn't sound like you really want to go there. If you decide to go, don't be tempted to rush through it, otherwise you won't appreciate the experience.

Thank you so much.
Actually i am very interested to visit this castle.
Just wonder if Paris Museum Pass can grant us easy entrance to the castle?
I just found out in the web that those with Museum Pass would not able to jump the queue due to the closing of that gate for renovation purpose.
Can help?
