How long from Rome to Amalf Coast?

Hi All-

I just started planning a trip to Italy (first time). I orginally wanted to spend all our time in the Amalfi region which is about 7 days. However, after speaking with a friend, I want to include Rome. How long is the train ride from Rome to Amalfi? Can I do both in this short time? Thanks!

Rome to Salerno by train is 2.5 hours. Salerno to Amalfi by bus is 70 minutes; by ferry boat is 30 minutes.

Just finished a similar trip. Rome to Naples 1.5 hrs or so, then regional train to Sorrento about an hour. I would suggest staying in Sorrento- great town and the best central location to daytrip to Capri, Pompei, Naples, Amalfi and Positano.Staying in Positano or Amalfi makes some of these daytrips a bit more of a hassle.

Hi fb,

You only have a week.

I suggestthat you stay with your original plan and do Rome another time.

You will lose almost a day transferring between Rome and the AC.
