Everything you need to know about getting a passport can be found at travel.state.gov

By applying directly at a passport office with travel documents showing an imminent departure and paying an extra fee I believe you can get one almost instantly. Otherwise variables like where you apply affect the time required.

Allow plenty of time. I had a horrible problem, because the Seattle office decided 3 weeks before we were to leave that the seal was not raised, and was not valid. It had been inspected by the courthouse prior to them sending it off. I agree, if you can get it done at a passport office, that might be faster. If your birth certificate is old, get a new copy. My husband had the same kind, and had no trouble at all. If you have to call the passport phone line, it is$1.95 per minute. Good luck

You don't have to travel in person to a passport agency to get expedited turnaround on a passport application. there is a whole cottage industry to handle that for you as long as you are prepared their fees. Without plugging any particular agency, here's the list you can find on Yahoo!:

http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Ec...port_Services/

Best wishes,

Rex
www.allexperts.com
