How early do I need to book Mallaig-Armadale ferry

I've seen at least one web site that indicates it is a good idea to book this ferry in advance during the busy season, I wold be taking it on Friday, June 23. Do I need to book in advance, and if so, how far in advance?

For a friday in June I would definitely pre-book. But you don't have to do it months ahead of time. When you know your itinerary for sure I'd go ahead and book. No reason to wait, really. But if you delay until May or early June that should be OK too. I've usually booked busy routes just a week or two ahead and been OK.

I assume you're driving. If not, don't bother booking. It's only necessary if you have a car.

Oh, yes - I too assumed you are driving. If not, you don't need to book ferries ahead of time (except overnight ones where you might want a stateroom).

just to clarify if I've confused anyone.. Armadale/Mallaig is not an overnight ferry. I meant that it isn't necessary for foot passengers to pre-book any ferries except the few long distance overnighters . . . . .

Thanks. Yes, I am driving. Had originally planned to take West Highlands steam train excursion, but the more I looked at it, and considered what I've read here, the idea of taking the ferry to Skye that day instead looked better. I will be coming from Inveraray, so I'm thinking that I'll book the 10:55 crossing sometime in the next month or two.
