How does this villa in Amalfi sound?

After originally planning on staying in Praiano, the villa we wanted was booked, so we are back to looking. I have found one on amalficoastrental.com called the "Tari" which is located in Amalfi near the Piazza Dei Dogi. Does anyone know this location? How is actually staying in Amalfi? I haven't read many posts about using it as a base, most people seem to stay in Postiano or Sorrento. Opinions? Any other recommendations for villas (under $1000 in mid June)?
Thanks,
Sara

Count me among the probable minority who would PREFER to stay in a town like Amalfi to staying in a more remote location like Praiano. I love being able to pop in and out of my apartment to go get coffee in the morning, or to stroll around after dinner, and be able to catch local transportion easily. All that is so easy in Amalfi, and I'm convinced (having stayed in Positano and Ravello before) that IS where I'd want to stay next time. While the town of Amalfi is very busy during the day, I suspect like many places it gets a lot quieter at night, yet there are dozens of interesting restaurants and some actual night life to enjoy.

That said, 110 steps is a long way to pop up and down every time you want to go somewhere. Maybe that's not an issue. The apartment is really tiny, and I personally hate a place where the bed is against a wall and one person has to crawl over the other to get into or out of bed, but maybe that's a minor issue. I must say that terrace alone is probably worth the low price of the apartment -- about 80 euro a night by the week! I'd go for it.

I have also found one called "Loggetta" located in Ravello. I'm not familiar with this area. We don't want to rent a car though. How convenient is it to other areas?

Thanks for your help.

I stayed in Amalfi for two weeks in an apartment last year. In order to get the great views you have to have a place with all the steps. Amalfi is built up upon itself in layers, so the top apartments have the best views. We had 139 steps! But it was worth it.

If you dont want to rent a car, I would suggest Amalfi, it is the starting point for the local buses.

I like Amalfi & have stayed there twice. We found Ravello a bit chilly in June because it is quite high up. In the sun it was OK but in the shade & at night it was chilly.
