Annhig, many Americans also call it stuffing when it's cooked inside the bird. Otherwise it's dressing. Or either one.>>

yes, but it's NOT bread sauce!

Ask for a salad "sans assaisonennement". When it arrives ask for "l'huile et du vinaigre" (although I'm sure I've mangled that last phrase).

About strawberries in California, you need to go to a Farmer's Market and then get wise about varieties. There's one called seascape that is great, but the red hearts and white diamonds that are the most common varieties can be a bit flavorless"

All of this strawberry talk I find interesting. I've been eating strawberries here in California for most of my life and I have gotten some really delicious, California-grown strawberries and year round. And most of mine I buy in the supermarket. And yes, there are varieties of strawberries. They all aren't the same and all varieties aren't intended to be very sweet.

As for the comment, on another thread about the large strawberries being somewhat tasteless, the poster there commented that she/he assumed that by the time a strawberry had traveled to say, all the way to N.Y., that it might possibly end up tasteless. And as for the big strawberries I assume one is talking about the ones that are usually dipped in chocolate or other melted sauces. Those are the ones that I seldom buy as I don't dip my strawberries.

Happy Travels!

Does anyone else remember the classic scene in a Jack Nicholson movie (Five Easy Pieces, I think) where he's on the road and stops at a roadside restaurant and tries to order dry toast and the waitress says they don't serve dry toast. He's incredulous, and asks if they serve sandwiches on toast. Yes. After several exasperating exchanges, he finally orders a tuna on toast and tells her to hold the mayo, hold the lettuce, hold the tuna, and just bring him the toast.
