How can I see beautiful Corfu in a day?
I've always wanted to visit Corfu, and now, I have to maximize my experience from 8a to 6pm during a cruise stop. So, here are the options...we can book a private taxi tour through Corfu Taxi Tours (appropriately named) that picks us up at the port for Vistonas,Makrades,Lakones, Paleokastritsa, Kanoni ,Corfu town (4 hours)...for Corfu town I believe we just get dropped back there to tour on our own...and he's very willing to customize this as we see fit...I know we also go to a place that sells olive oil and wine.
Or, we can rent a car and tour on our own. I was going to skip Paleokastritsa because I've read it's so crowded and developed. I'd really love to see Kaloura and that bay, if possible and some charming mountain towns. I'm most interested in beautiful scenery and don't want to visit the overly developed area. I do want to spend about 3-4 hours in Corfu town and about an hour at Achilleon, so this really doesn't give us much time to explore on our own....and I worry a bit about renting a car for such a short time.
Any thoughts on how to have a pleasurable day on Corfu? Is Paleokastritsa still worth seeing? In mid-May, it will be too cold for swimming so I don't want to spend a lot of time at a beach. Also interested in delicious, local cuisine.

Take a cruise ship tour or hire a guide. You will get lost and won't know what you are seeing. The cruise tours also take you to a small monastery. Ask your guide. I enjoyed the scenery (the Ionian Islands are much different than the Aegean Islands) and the old town. I would have liked to see the new town but there was some EU meeting there which made it not possible .

Thanks for your comments, dugi took...you're right, we probably would get lost and I don't want to waste time....also don't want to take a cruise ship tour so will probably will stick to the taxi tour we were thinking about. I just wanted to be able to specify what I wanted to see during the tour.
