How about a "bush jacket" or Safarii jacket?

I have always liked the bush jacket style, with a lot of pockets. What is the opinion of the readers about wearing one in Italy?

If you like it, go for it.

If you were looking for a rise due to use of the word "bush", GET A LIFE!

I can't even think of a good GW joke that has anything to do with a jacket. I am trying to find a stylish alternative to a fanny pack or shoving things in my front pants pocket. I like the many pockets on a bush (as in the jungles of Africa) type jacket.

Pockets attract those with an interest in your pockets, especially in Italy.I had one of these 25 years ago & they were naff then, probably more so now.

I am planning to bring a photographer's vest with me for the same reason--planning to do some sketching painting as I go along and I figured I can keep a small sketchbook, brush and watercolor set with me that way--I think it is a solution for keeping stuff with you without extra packs, etc.

Try Tilley.com for a look at their jacket. I got one 3 years ago andjust love it. Loads of pockets, is long enough, not too heavy. A bit pricey, but should last a lifetime

Sammy:

Do wear one. A bush or Safari jacket (both terms are acceptable CJ) are quite
useful when touring Europe & can eliminate the fanny pack if you so desire.
When in Rome last May we saw several men wearing this type of vest/jacket. I don't know if they were tourists or not. They looked nice and my husband thought they were a good idea. Just don't put anything of value in the outside pockets!
