Hotels - Venice, Rome, Perugia
My travel agent has recommended Kette Hotel in Venice, Rosetta Hotel in Perugia and Teatro Pace 33 Hotel in Rome. Any feedback on these hotels would be greatly appreciated.

I assume you've looked at reviews on tripadvisor and done a text search here? Here's a link for the Kette reviews

I have no personal experience, but always thought that TA's recommend hotels that pay them for bookings, right? For that reason, I'd be especially diligent to read reviews online or in guidebooks and check a map for their location within each city.

Suze- TA doesn't actually pay people for reviews. It is just users like you or me. However, anyone can go on and post so you need to read with a critical eye. I have occasionally had the impression that some hotels try to "beef up" their ratings, but I still find it a very reliable and useful resource. Most postings are legit. As in all travel, it is important to do your homework well and use more than one source.

fun4all4, I think when suze used the acronym "ta" she meant travel agent not trip advisor Yes, I guess travel agent's would tend to use places that will pay a commission but sometimes that's not a bad thing. The reviews I forwarded of the Kette seemed good. That said, I don't recall too many people here mentioning the Kette. Doesn't mean anything though.
Have fun reading the reviews.

mclaurie: yes, thank you. I thought TA was a common abbreviation for Travel Agent (not tripadvisor.com)
fun4all4: i understand how tripadvisor works and have posted reviews there myself. My point was that Travel Agents get kick-backs from the hotels they put people in. Sometimes this results in less than favorable properties or locations not central or convenient. I was trying to politely issue this small caveat.

Well....silly me...don't I feel foolish. Sorry Suze. Of course, mclaurie is right, I'm sure you were referring to travel agents. I had just been reading the "trip advisor" comment. My apologies.

awww shucks, don't feel bad. clearly i spend way too much time here on Fodors to have started talking the lingo.
i never use a travel agent myself so have only heard tell about certain hotels paying agents to send people (same for package tour groups)... especially since airlines quit paying Travel Agents those hotel recommendations are one of the ways for them to make money.

Not familiar with your recommended hotels, but I agree with kelliebellie. We stayed at Locanda Orseola and it was one of the highlights of our trip. We also stayed at the Del Senato in Rome and you can't be location.
