Hotels Rome

Can anyone offer an opinion on a hotel in Rome? I believe we have narrowed it down to: the Portoghesi, Santa Chiara, Del Senato. If anyone has stayed at any of these or can recommend others, we'd appreciate it. Our first priority is location in historic center. Thanks in advance.
Good afternoon, Sanda
Have not stayed at any of these hotels
but this is what information, I have
been able to secure.
The hotel PORTOGHESI, via Portoghesi, 1
is a three star hotel with 28 rooms.
This hotel should be about two blocks
400 m., north of the Pza Navona, but
can locate the street on my map.
The hotel SANTA CHIARA,via Santa Chiara,
21 is a three star hotel with 98 rooms
located about one block south of the
Rotunda (Pantheon).
The hotel DEL SENATO, is a three star
hotel with 58 rooms and is located just
across from the Rotunda.
The Senato would be my first choice as
it is in a very active location. The
Santa Chiara, second. From all
hotels it would be a five min walk to
the Pza Navona, about ten to 15 mins
to the bottom of the Spanish Steps
and less than ten to the Fountian of
Treve. St. Peters in all instances
would be about 15 mins walk....
Richard of La Grange Park, Il...

Try the Hotel Rex, across from Opera House close to everything. Extremely nice hotel and not cheap. Exquisite rooms and very nice breakfast. As I recall this was at minimum 4 star, maybe 5 star, and trust me worth every penny it cost. They have a web site, search within Rome pages for Hotel Rex.

I HIGHLY recommend Hotel Rex across street from Opera House. This is a wonderful hotel, exquisite rooms, great breakfast, and good location close to all sites. Expensive but worth every penny. They have a web site, search within Rome pages for Hotel Rex.

How curious that Favio and Curt use the same language to recommend a hotel that wasn't even on the original poster's list. Advertising, perhaps?

Sheer coincidence? Has anyone heard of the Rex? I'd say good ... very good ... reason to avoid the Rex like the plague. If they have to resort to such surreptitious free advertising it can't be much of a property.

Avoid the Rex!

The Hotel Portoghesi is a great place to stay. It's quiet clean, and reasonably priced. You won't beat the location. Be careful about your location, because the "historic center" as the term is used can be quite far from the sites. Stay in the Piazza Navona area, or you'll spend a lot of money on taxis.
