Hotels outside of London

I am off to London for a long weekend next month. Looking through expedia I found a few for about $60 a night around Hyde Park. Does any know of any cheaper on the outskirts of the city? I will be on foot so it would have to be within 2 miles of either the tube or a bus that runs into the city.
I dont care about amenities, I just would like it clean and safe.

For a weekend you lose WAY too much time commuting to stay outside of the center. That $60 is about £36. There are decent B&Bs in central London for between £25 and £35. If that is too much, try a hostel in London. No amenities but good locations. You aren't going to find anything very much cheaper within in a reasonable commute.

Agree with previous poster. Some suggestions:
Do a text search here. There's a thread called something like London-REALLY inexpensive accomodation. Someone suggests a college room you can rent. Also try Laterooms.com and Lastminute.com (Also Londontown, com) Finally try posting your question on Lonelyplanet.com where I gather readers are younger & more cost conscious. Good Luck

I addition to the time used up by commuting don't forget about the cost. The trains are not free! $60 sounds very inexpensive for London.

If you're looking for reasonably priced B&Bs in London, you can checkout the website www.tuckedup.com

I've stayed in the Belgravia district in London, where many of the B&Bs are located. You'll be close enough to walk to Victoria Station for the tube.
