Hotels on the Amalfi Coast
I am looking for a great hotel on the Amalfi Coast that we can stay at for three nights on our honeymoon. We would like a place that has its own private beach, and rooms with a balcony with great sea views. Does anyone have suggestions?

Hi,
Because the Aamlfi coast is so hilly and rocky, there are few beaches. That being said I do know that the Tritone Grand has its own beach. It is in Praiano, but not in the village. It is a 4 star and very nice. We stayed at the Tramonto D'oro in Praiano. It is a 3 star with the fabulous view and wonderful owners. This hotel has a roof top pool, but not a private beach. We loved this hotel and plan to go back frequently after we retire. There is a beach below, but it is a walk down and up. There are chaises to rent etc. I am sure others know of a hotel with their own beach. It is a beautiful area and you will be in heaven.

The Santa Caterina (just outside Amalfi) and San Pietro ( just outside Positano) both have beaches. The Sireneuse also in Positano does not have it's own beach, but is very close to the small town beach in the center of Positano.
Hope this helps!

just below the santa catarina (which is going to be very very pricey), i would recommend the hotel we stayed in last week: Miramalfi.
they just opened the pool when we arrived and inserted the ladder to the sea where our son swam among schools of fish in crystal clear, albeit frigid, water. how i wish we could have returned when normal humans could swim in the pool and the sea.
the cost was about $250 USD per nite. we had a corner room with a balcony called a junior suite (just one room but it was huge with a walk-in closet, and sofa bed for our son.)
check this hotel's website. the spectacular shot of the hotel and pool are exactly like the real thing!!
see my quick tips on amalfi for more info about this town v. positano.

I have stayed at Le Sirenuse and San Pietro. The are both fabulous, but I much prefer Le Sirenuse for its proximity to town, its incredible views and the pool area. The beach is within walking distance, but the Amalfi coast is not really the place for beach.

The San Pietro has a platform over the water, but some days you can't get in the water because it is not safe - too dirty. If you aren't going to take a lot of day trips, you might consider Villa Cimbrone in Ravello, to re-open in 2004 or Villa Sasso. There are other great moderate priced hotels like the Villa Rosa and the Piazza Murat. WT

We recently stayed at Hotel Onda Verde in Praiono. Wonderful hotel and fantastic views (make sure to request a room with a big balcony - rm 101 is ideal). They do have a private beach as well but agree with the other posters - the Almafi Coast is not really the place for the beach. Even if you don't stay there - check out their wonderful website for lots of information on the area. (www.ondaverde.it) Enjoy the beauty!
