Amalfi Coast

I am looking for some ideas with respect to hotels to stay in along the amalfi coast. I want a hotel right on the coast line (not inland), and am not adverse to smaller cities versus the more well known ones. Ideally we'd like a hotel with a pool (travelling with kids who may need a diversion. Budget is about $250 Euros with 4 to a room.
Thanks for any help.

It doesn't have a pool but Albergo Califonia in Positano is a short walk to the Positano beach and is on the coast (across the street from La Sirenuse).

Hi,
Try the hotel Tramonto D'Oro in Praiano. They have rooms for 4, plus a great roof top pool. It is on the coast, with fabulous views. We had a wondrful vacation there 2 years ago. If this web site does not work, google it.

I stayed at the Villa Franca in Positano two years ago and really enjoyed it. It has a great roofop pool and fantastic view. I recall that it was more or less in your price range, perhaps a bit more. The only downside was that it was fairly hight up in this vertical town. The walk down to the beach is fun but the walk back up is exhausting. There was a free shuttle van(which I never used) or a taxi ride was just a couple of euros. This issue of vertical distance is something you should look into regarding almost any Amalfi coast hotel. A hotel may only be a block or two from the beach, but it could be several hundred feet up!

thanks for all of your responses. To Yipper. What the Tramonte D'oro like. Are the rooms fairly nice. What is the vertical distance from the beach. Is there a restaurant on site, and do the rooms have balconies?
thanks,

Hands down it's the Lorelei et Londres in Sorrento. Under 100E for a room RIGHT on the water. A little spartan but roomy and clean and many rooms have wonderful views.Ask for one. Owned by a very warm and entertaining family. I have stayed here 3-4 times. Easy to get to other coastal towns and Capri from Sorrento.

Hi,
The rooms at the Tramonto D'Oro are very nice, as are the bathrooms. The hotel has a restaurant and there are quite a few restaurants in the village. Breakfast comes with the room and is serves outside on the balcony with the fabulous view. All of the rooms have balconies, and most have the "to die for" view. To get to the beach you walk down a path that connects to the hotel. It is a wonderful walk down, but slower going back. The hotel is on the coast, but high above the sea. We went to the beach 1 day, but after a day of sight seeing we would go to the pool. The roof top pool is hugh and has that fabulous view. The family who owns the hotel are so delightful. They gave us a few hundred dollars worth of Lira in the moring and said give us the USdollars when you return this afternoon. It is a great place and I would stay there again.
