hotels on Skye
we are 4 women traveling to Scotland in May 2009. Can someone offer some recommendations for hotels on Skye? Would like to stay near Dunvegan, but we can always adjust the itinerary to stay somewhere else. Thanks in advance for your help.

You need to state more about your budget and whether you will be renting a car.
I had a fabulous stay at the self-catering cottages associated with the Duntulm hotel -- so fabulous that I've actually been afraid to return lest I spoil my happy, perfect memories!
But you would need a car and while I think they are very affordable, you may disagree.
If you have a sightseeing agenda, people can probably help you better if you describe it.

We stayed for 4 nights in the Lodge at Edinbane summer 2008, which is about 5 minutes from Dunvegan, towards Portree. It is a fabulous place, and I highly recommend it! It's reasonably priced, and has a pub and restaurant on premises. It's got several rooms, and is an historical property as well. The hosts (Hazel and Pete) are delightful
And yes, I would agree that without a car Skye will be difficult.

We stayed at The Royal in Portree, which isn't what you asked for though. It was about 6 years ago and I see it still gets decent reviews on tripadvisor.

The Lodge at Edinbane that greendragon suggested, sounds perfect.

My favourite is the Eilean Iarmain, but, being in Sleat, it's not the most central
This place got a good review for food in today's Scotland on Sunday
