I stayed at Marincanto in October 2006. The hotel wasn't as ritzy as it looked in the website, but it was in decent shape and very clean. We had a great view of the water and Positano from our balcony. The staff wasn't overly friendly, but they were nice enough.
I don't know anything about Buca di Bacco, but I recommend Marincanto, it was about right for the price.

All I can say is that we thoroughly enjoyed staying at the Buca di Bacco in 2004...we had a large, beautiful room with a terrace overlooking the sea. The rate then was $180. No doubt substantially more now. It is an elegant establishment, bountiful buffet breakfasts included, friendly /helpful staff, free computer time back then.

The B di B fronts the gray sand-pebble-beach...it is in the midst of the lively part of town..long walk back up the hill, and along that way are many shops and restos.
Most of what I ever saw of Portofino IS tourist-oriented...but on the off season it dissipates a bit. Summer must be bummper to bumper turistas...we travel fall and spring, so we didn't experience the busiest times in Portofino.
On the other hand, I fail to see what's wrong with tourists...I'm one and you're one...and if a place is worth seeing and experiencing, it will attract tourists. A "given"...
I think you will enjoy the Amalfi Coast very much, Adrien.
Note: *I suppose there's one way one way to completely avoid tourists...rent one of those enchanting isolated islands in the Carib...typical cost, $50,000 a month.
